Job News

I am still waiting for an actual job offer, though I have been assured that one is in the works and should be in my hands by Friday or so. I am starting to feel that ACW is simply a horrible person, and I have decided that I will be avoiding her to the greatest extent possible. I think I have dodged a bullet on that. The group I work for was moved yesterday to a new workspace where for the moment we are the only occupants. ACW chose what would be the receptionist's desk, by the door, if we were to have a receptionist. It is isolated by itself, as far from the lawyers as it is possible to get. I took a seat in a two person pod that only has me in it, which is fine by me. Extra workspace! But my main lawyer boss saw where ACW had chosen to sit and was clearly surprised and annoyed that she was so freakin' far away. She raised the issue with the other lawyer, who is technically her superior and who interacts with ACW much more, and ACW's boss declined to be concerned about her choice of seat, which, thank goodness, because the only other place for her was the other half of my pod. Argh, I hope it never comes to that.

UPDATE: Since the train ride this morning, when I typed the previous, there have been more developments. When I arrived at the office, there was an email from the other lawyer, saying she wanted me to move into the WINDOW OFFICE next to hers, and ACW to take the spot I'm in. Even later in the day I found out this couldn't happen without approval by the Managing Partner. So we'll see.

What makes it very interesting as a look into my sponsor's mindset is that she told me to move to the office, rather than just telling ACW to share the other half of this space.  It has two work stations and is intended for two people.  I think she was TRYING to make a distinction between us, not just trying ot address a space/seating issue.  And if she was just trying to give us each MORE territory, it would be easier just to move ACW into the empty office - one move.  Anyway, no biggie to me, just extremely interesting.  As a work space, I actually like my current desk better, as the office doesn't have the same useful configuration of storage and bulletin board space.  But it does have privacy, it's own temperature control, and a truly massive desk (with only three drawers!), plus guest chairs, so.  Give and take.
