"I once had this story about a woman who'd been taken by an eviiiilll "organization" ..."

And then you sold it to Joss Weadon so that he could create Doll House, huh? Remind me to ask you for a loan sometime. :)

"I'm seriously interested if this was part of what got truncated due to the time constraints!"

Oh yeah! There was an entire back history I wanted to work in. One scenario had baby Nick playing with his mother's keys, and a grandmotherly doll stepping in before he could stick them into an electrical socket. Another had teenage Nick driving down a road, stopping to pick up a hitchhiker, and then seeing a car racing through the intersection in front of him. Originally, these brief scenes would've been told first, both to build Nick's credibility with the reader, as well as show his growing understanding of what was going on. Problem was, I could easily come up with brief rescue scenes, but ones involving manipulation would've been, by necessity, much longer.

So, because I had such limited time to write, I wrote the main scene first, figuring that I'd come back to the intro stuff later, and you see how that worked out. LOL Of course, without those scenes to build credibility, I realize that Nick could actually come off as being totally nuts, and I'm cool with that interpretation too. *grin*

Thank you! I'm very glad you liked this. I was afraid it had ended up being a hopeless jumble.

Yes, better weeks for us both!!!

Dan
