Volkner was skeptical.

Her not knowing what Pokemon were? Understandable. Her coming from another universe, where Pokemon did not exist? Impossible for him to understand. He was intelligent; he was sure that she was lying. After all, she was extremely capable as a Trainer and managed to beat him with only two Pokemon, something many Trainers who have been battling for years cannot achieve.

So of course he was hard to convince, because as Ino kept explaining it over and over again, she realized how crazy she must have sounded. It was understandable how Volkner couldn't believe her immediately, but after two weeks of explaining it, she had begun to become very short tempered (moreso than usual) with him.

"Tell me again, what are your regions called?" Volkner asked. They were training against each other, Volkner always looking for an excuse to beat Ino. Since his first defeat against her, he has been pulling out all the stops. Ino hadn't won a battle in two weeks, but Volkner allowed her to keep the badge.

"Countries," Ino said. "Infernape, Focus Punch!"

"Electivire, Thunder!" Volkner shouted. She could never land that Focus Punch, Infernape couldn't move fast enough to avoid Electivire's attacks.

He watched with a smirk as Infernape charged at Electivire, only to be shocked by Thunder. Infernape fell but was still in the fight.

"Finish it off! Charge Beam!"

"Get out of the way, Infernape!" Ino shouted at her Pokemon. It struggled to push itself up but was shocked once again. Ino returned Infernape and scowled at Volkner.

He hated that she wasn't like the other trainers, protective of their Pokemon. She treated them as tools, though not to the extent of Team Galactic. She did give them treats occasionally but there was no "Good job!" to the Pokeball when it was returned. She simply commanded her Pokemon to do attacks and they listened, as if they didn't notice she wasn't treating them with the love they deserved.

But with her friends, where most don't care where their friends are at any given time, Ino is overly protective. With Dawn, Ino treated her like a little sister instead of a friend and was always there for her. Even with Volkner, she was kind and always tried to convince him to battle the Elite Four, to achieve his dream, as she had put it.

"Maybe I should take back that gym badge," Volkner taunted as Ino stomped past him to get back to the Pokemon Center.

Ino had been in Sunyshore for two and a half weeks, training for her battle against the Elite Four. She'd already met Flint, and if one of his Pokemon could take out all six of hers, then she definitely needed the training. All she could do was hope that she was good enough.

"Maybe you shouldn't have lost in the first place," Ino retorted, seething at this loss. It was nothing new, but it still cut her deep to lose. Crasher Wake had told her to have fun while battling, but she only had fun when she won. After all, to have fun back in her own world, she had to win.

Volkner rolled his eyes and returned his Electivire, giving it quick praise before running after Ino. "Hey, let's go out for some lunch. It's on me."

"Fine," Ino said, with the faintest hint of a smile on her lips. "I love our dates." That sent Volkner into a stuttering frenzy. Ino rolled her eyes and smiled. Boys were the same in every universe.

The 'date' wasn't so bad. Volkner wasn't as discreet as he thought he was, and Ino never failed to tell him that. If he wanted to be with her, and he didn't know how to act around her, she could definitely try to shape him.

"You shouldn't have let yourself become so obsessed with him," Volkner said. Ino looked up, confused. Obsessed with who?

"What?" Ino asked.

"Sasuke," Volkner said. Ino's face tensed. She'd only told Dawn that story, but she'd mentioned him a few times to him. "Dawn told me."

"I know," Ino said. "Why'd you ask her about him?"

"I didn't," Volkner said. "Not about him." Ino raised an eyebrow.

"About what, then?" Ino asked.

"I just wanted to know more," Volkner said. "You always glossed over the most interesting parts, and dragged on the boring parts. I know you told everything to Dawn, so I asked her." Ino scowled at him.

"All you ask me to tell you about is how my village works, and I tell you," Ino said. It wasn't like a Chuunin would know all the good stuff, anyway. Unless he was talking about her personal business, and then she wondered why he didn't just ask her himself (knowing the answer immediately, of course). "Just ask me yourself if you want to know something about me. I can tell it to you better than Dawn can."

"But then you'd get the wrong idea," Volkner said. "I don't want to know more about you for romantic reasons, you're just interesting. You're not like others here."

"That's because I'm not from here, Volkner." Ino said with an eye twitch. Here they go again...

"I wish you would stop saying that," Volkner said. "The joke is getting old."

"When was this a joke?" Ino demanded, about ready to throw a piece of bread at him. She was ready to get immature if she had to - anything to make him understand that she was serious. Dawn and her mother believed her, why didn't he?

"It has to be," Volkner said. "People don't just show up from different worlds."

"Well that's not a common occurrence back home, either," Ino said with a scowl.

"Uh-huh," Volkner said. Ino shot a glare at him. He just gave her an amused look.

"Look, it's crazy to hear, but it's the truth," Ino told him for the fiftieth time. "Either you accept it or stop asking questions."

"Could I do both?" Volkner asked after a short pause. Ino averted her gaze to the floor, furrowing her brows. Then she began to smile.

"Does that mean you believe me?" Ino asked.

"Somewhat," Volkner said. "Unbelievable, but I do believe you."

"Finally," Ino said, sighing in relief. "Sick of hearing me complain?"

"No," Volkner said. "Just sick of hearing you."

Ino scowled as she threw a piece of bread at him. Her aim was perfect - as it should have been, despite her lack of training for two months - and hit him right between the eyes. Causing a scene in the little restaurant, she stormed out, leaving Volkner to smile sheepishly at the restaurant owners, an old couple who ran the place by themselves.

They just rolled their eyes.
