for the past 5 years a particular item has been brought back to our annual davis family christmas party yankee swap. each year whoever got it in the swap has the whole year to figure out something awesome to do to it to bring it back the next year. The item is, odly enough, my cousin Lydia's leg brace she had as a kid...
well... here..this is the intro to the Leg Brace Photo Album:
The Legend of the Leg Brace:
It was the December of 2003 when the Leg Brace was introduced to the Davis family and loved ones. Once worn by Lydia Larson as a wee child ~ it was an unusual choice as a Yankee Swap gift. However, it instantly became the greatest and most cherished swap item ever exchanged in the history of the Davis family gatherings. the Leg Brace brought joy and laughter to last the whole year through. So wonderful in fact, it was decided it had to be brought back the next year... And this is how the legend of the Leg Brace began. If you are blessed & fortunate enough to bring this leg brace, you must bring it the following year in whatever form you choose. Along with this awesom responsibility you must document its change and add it to this book so that we can all remember each marvelou transformation at Christmas.
2003- Lydia Larson Brings the leg brace to the Yankee Swap
2004- George Leavitt brings it back paired with Rolls of toilet paper and six cans of refried beans
2005- Roger Davis gets kudos from everyone fro mounting & bronzing the Leg Brace onto a trophy base...(truly amazing)
2006- elisa Leavitt- 'Le Leg Brace' Designer Series Handbag
2007-Lydia Larson wraps it as a candy cane
2008-Sarah and Matt -- BRILLIANT. they made it like the leg lamp in A Christmas Story.. beads on the lampshade, fishnet stocking... this will be hard to beat.
So... this year i got the brace in the swap. so i get to do whatever i want with it and bring it back next year......... ooohboy :)
i was bummed dad couldnt come up. i really hope he comes next month and can bring richard and michael. that would be great...
but Ron came to the party and i was really glad he decided to come. it was really nice. i love my family.
i was also thrilled i could finally buy my sisters and their families gifts this year. i hate never being able to get my nephews anything... but i think they liked what we gave them.
tomorrow i help my mom get the last of her stuff out of the appartment in derry... which is kind of sad :\
i actually got really sad on Christmas and wanted to go home, but then realized that i dont really have a home anymore.
however, mom called me today and told me how incredibly happy she is now. and that makes me happy. i'm glad she's happy. and loved.
bed.
