Wonderful times
You never trully realize what it is to "live" until you experience the greatness of a baby starting to live once the mother give birth to a child. I have the privilege to be part of the birth of my 2 sons so far, and even if it is a cliche, I will tell you that this is the most wonderful thing I saw in my life. Both times, it was an fantastic for both of us. Although with our first son, we had to let it go after a few minutes with the mother since he had a hard time to breath. This time, we were together all the time, until we moved out of the birth room.
We are also lucky since for the 2nd time we can benefit from the new parental program offered by the Quebec governement. This program let me spend the first 5 weeks with my wife and son. This time though I am working for my own company, therefore I was able to get a little more. I ended my contract on march 6 and will start a new one on April 27th. This gives me 6 week of parental leave.
It was though the first time to decide to leave work for 5 weeks. In my field of work, software development, 5 weeks is very long in a project that can last from 3 months to many years. I never regreted it though, and this is why I am doing the exact same thing this time over.
Believe me, if you have the chance to live 5 weeks together once your child is born..... do it.
