HALLOWEEN EVENT // The Park

Oct 30, 2009 19:09

The park at the north end of the campus seems to have become the center of activity for the night -- a wooden floor has been laid down for dancing with the musicians standing by (you'd be surprised how musical bones can be), and sneering jack-o-lanterns compete with a roaring bonfire for the most dramatic lighting. There's also a buffet, and while ( Read more... )

Frau picked up on her sadness right away. Now he knew she'd wanted to come here with someone, and apparently that someone wasn't here. She was just a kid, but she seemed so hurt about not having the one she wanted here too despite her arguments otherwise. Well, Frau would just have to fix that.

The bishop stepped forward a bit. When the light touched him his costume changed. No longer Frankenstein, Frau was now dressed like this. He gave Rebecca another warm smile and held out his hand for her. After all, it was far better to dance in this new outfit.

Atem, meanwhile, was standing near but not too near the buffet, staring at the bonfire though he probably should have been paying more attention to Linali, his date. The scarf she'd given him for Christmas last year was tucked around his neck, hiding the lower part of his face as he watched the dancing flames and flickering shadows. Two of the distant shadows detached from the darkness, and he turned his attention to them. When he suddenly realized that he was seeing Frau and Rebecca of all people preparing to dance with each other, he was quite glad for the cover of the scarf, because his jaw dropped.

Frau smiled once more when she took his hand despite her arguments. He could compensate for the difference in height, he'd just have to stay a farther distance from her so he could stay slightly bent over. He led her slowly out to the dance floor, wondering what, exactly, this strange music was. Oh well, he could shift the dance if he needed to. The bishop stopped and took her other hand in his, raising it up a bit. "Just follow my lead," he told her quietly. A waltz wasn't really that hard to catch on to, so she should be alright.

Linali had just looped her arm through her date's (revenge for ignoring her) and given him a mischievous grin when she realized that he had an extremely funny look on his face under the scarf. What was he-

Oh.

Oh.

She watched Frau and Rebecca step onto the floor, incredibly shocked that the bishop was even dancing, much less with the bossy little blond. Leaning closer to Atem to get a better look, she was strangely reminded of her dance with Yozak a year ago. Is this what they'd looked like?

Frau kept a careful eye on her at first, but she seemed to be doing well. When she started catching on, Frau began moving a bit more from their starting position. More distance was being covered, and he'd begun to add in small twirls for Rebecca. There was certainly now question that Frau knew how to dance. As they danced he didn't even notice the audience they seemed to have accumulated. His entire focus was on Rebecca and their dancing. Though he wouldn't openly admit it, and it certainly didn't look like it, a small part of Frau was continually holding the scythe back from acting on the thought that Rebecca would make a marvelous midnight snack.

Atem forgot to be embarrassed by the way Linali was clinging to his arm, simply continuing to stare at the dancing pair in shock. It was such an unexpected group of two that he didn't consider doing anything else for a moment, until something registered and he looked around for Yuugi. Spotting him, he gave the other boy a look that was difficult to read, but was clearly intended to be a commentary on this very bizarre occurrence.

Though Linali was pretty amazed at all this herself, she managed to look away, thinking she'd already made Rebecca angry enough and there was no need to give her another reason to hate her. Her thoughts quickly turned to happier things, and she grabbed Atem's hand and gave it a squeeze. "Shall we dance, love?" she asked, the unnatural emphasis on the endearment matching her grin at him.

Frau was glad that Rebecca seemed to be enjoying herself. In fact, Frau was having a decent time as well. The music continued to play and Frau kept guiding Rebecca around, adding in small frills here and there. He seemed to be enjoying keeping Rebecca on her toes a bit. "You've gotten rather good already, Little Princess."

Atem's response time to Linali's question lagged somewhat before he turned to her, eyes a bit wider than usual. "Dance?" he repeated, managing to not stutter though his voice sounded a little strange. "Don't you think that..." He trailed off, and gave Yuugi another furtive glance from under his hoodie, then looked once more to the already-dancing couple.
