fic_promptly's Yami no Matsuei, Tsuzuki & Hisoka, some situations require a hasty retreat

They'd kept watch over the mausoleum since sundown, but no sign of what they sought.

"Couldn't this ghoul show it's face once?" Tsuzuki grumbled, learning back against the compost, annoyed.

"It's not like the ghoul has much reason to hang around, since there's no fresh bodies recently," Hisoka said, shrugging.

"Ugh," Tsuzuki groaned, wincing and shuddering. "Don't remind me what brings them here."

A low grinding rattled behind the two shinigami, deep inside the mausoleum. Tsuzuki pulled away from the door post, staring over his shoulder. "What the hell was that?!" he snapped, eyes wide. Something let out a deep rattling groan, like someone with a bone in their throat.

Hisoka stared up at Tsuzuki. "Sounds like you're getting an answer to your question. And fast," he said.

The stone door to the mausoleum crashed inwards and a wild wind rushed out, like a hot wind out of the infernal regions. Something roared deep in the stone building and they both felt something big stirring below them.

"That's no ghoul," Tsuzuki said, staring at Hisoka.

Something rattled, like massive chalky pipes pushing up through the earth. "That sounds like bones," Hisoka said.

"Because that's what they are," Tsuzuki said, grabbing Hisoka by the arm, as a shape like a hand emerged from the open doorway, a hand as long as Tsuzuki stood tall, with fingers made all of bones. Before it could rise up and reach for them, Tsuzuki rushed him down the steps, their feet skimming inches above the stones and the dead grass.

"What was that?" Hisoka said.

"Not a ghoul: It was a gashadokuro," Tsuzuki said , setting them both down on the pinnacle of an obelisk.

"So those are real?" Hisoka said.

"Unfortunately, yes, good reason to beat a hasty retreat, before it eats us."
