He knelt before Enma-Daioh, head bent, trembling under the god's relentless gaze. He waited, expecting that mighty hand would smite him, obliterating him or sending him into the cycle of rebirth. Or worse yet, sending him into hell, the fate he sensed he deserved, though he could not say why.
"You are no evil being, yet you are no innocent," Enma-Daioh spoke. "You have a heavy debt to pay; you will pay as my servant."
"As your... what?" Tsuzuki looked up.
"You will help to guide the souls of the dead into my realm." His punishment: becoming what he feared.
