"No need for secrets," she once told him, when she learned about his moments with Oriya. But he couldn't tell her all: she couldn't know what he had become, what he was now, of the darkness that burned within him, feeding on the lives of others, urging him to track down the unwitting, taking the lives of some, feeding from the passion of others.
But never her. He swore to himself he would never use her as a source of nourishment. She would be the soul he no longer had, the light that he darkness could never touch, not once.
