[Yami no Matsuei] "For You I Pine, For You I...Squick" (PG-13)

Author's Note: Written for comment_fic's "Any, any, the Valentine's Card had an anatomically correct heart on it": I've had an idea for a story like this and I jumped at the chance to write it! Mild Muraki/Tsuzuki

On Valentine's Day, Tsuzuki usually got a fairly big stack of gifts and cards: a friendly card and a Hershey's Bar from Hisoka, some budget-priced obligatory bars from Tatsumi and the Chief, a box of silly-shaped chocolates and a funny card from the Hokkaido duo, or a box of homemade truffles from Wakaba, or a jar of chocolate body paint from the Count. He tended to avoid whatever Watari gave him, especially if it looked handmade.

But that year, out of the blue, an expensive triple-decker box with no name on it turned up. "There's a card with it," Tatsumi said, holding up the large red envelope that had fallen off the box in Tsuzuki's mad scramble to open it.

"Oh? Hey, maybe it'll reveal the identity of who gave me this," Tsuzuki said, taking the envelope and breaking the white wax that sealed the flap.

Inside was a card made of thick, hand-made paper. But as soon as he turned it over, he discovered a heart painted on the front with a careful precise hand. Except that it was an anatomically correct heart.

"Well, they're a good artist," Tsuzuki said, trying to put a good face on it, but he had started to suspect who had sent it.

Then he looked inside.

To the one that I love,

A portrait of the heart that pines for you,

K.

The handwriting was careful and precise, but it was unmistakable.

"EEK!" Tsuzuki yelped, leaping backward, falling off his chair, sending the card flying.

Watari cocked his head, eying Tsuzuki, then stooping to pick up the card. "Oh my, did something in this card startle you?"

"Don't touch it! It's probably got poison in the paper. Check the chocolates, they're probably poisoned too!" Tsuzuki wailed.

"Must be from someone nasty if Tsuzuki is terrified of chocolate," Tatsumi observed.

Watari blinked. "Oh my, he's right."

"What, the poison?" Tsuzuki said, peeking out of the leghole of his desk.

"No, that it's from someone nasty," Watari said. "Maybe a test on the chocolate wouldn't be such a bad idea."

"If we can afford the time and money," Tatsumi murmured.

"Strange coming from Muraki," Hisoka observed. "I didn't even feel his touch on it."

"Well, he can be a romantic when he wants to be," Tsuzuki said creeping out from under the desk. "But he does put a sick slant on it."
