Author's Note: Written for < lj user="comment_fic">'s Torchwood, Jack/Ianto, Hot Winter days Companion piece/prequel/first chapter to "To Push the Cold of Winter Away". Featuring Jack getting Ianto hot and bothered in front of some of the team.

"I'm never looking at snowmen the same way ever again," Ianto grumbled, as he edged along a snowy path, Owen at his back, as they made their way through a wooded area of the Brecon Beacons. The icy rain that had fallen the previous night made the footing -- even with snowshoes strapped to their feet -- even more treacherous.

"Not gonna be able to watch 'Frosty the Snowman' without getting the wibblies, eh?" Jack asked in reply over the comm-link."I'll snuggle with you on the couch and keep you safe."

"Can we not hear about your wintry extra-curricular activities?" Owen asked, patiently.

"Oooh, feeling jealous, Owen? Could always join in the fun, though Ianto doesn't like sharing," Jack twitted.

Ianto could not help the annoyed groan that he let out. "Don't blame you for the impatient humming," Owen said, eying Ianto.

Of a sudden, Ianto's ear piece crackled and popped, then Jack's voice came over the link, a bit more hollow, but no less distinct. "Can you hear me now, Ianto?" he asked.

"Jack?" Ianto asked, tapping the earpiece.

"Link going funny?" Owen asked.

"He can't hear me: good," Jack said, cheekily "Gives us a little much-needed privacy."

"What is this?" Ianto asked.

"Early Christmas present: Tosh and I worked on it for you, so you and I can keep our conversations to ourselves," Jack replied. "Only catch is, I'm the only one who can open it, at this point. Keyed it into my wrist strap."

"Good enough: we'll work out something more... two way another time," Ianto said.

"Good to hear: Now, let's get to work catching some snowman wannabes," Jack said. "And stop burning up this link, because if I get going, I could really melt the snow on you. Though that would give me an excuse to get you out of those wet clothes, dry you off with some nice thick towels at that ski resort I promised the team we'd stay in tonight, and curl up with you on the couch under some warm blankets, in front of the fireplace--"

At that moment, something roared in the undergrowth. The bushes lashed wildly and something shaped like a snowman but with legs rushed out at Owen. Ianto aimed the netgun at the thing and fired, releasing an orange mesh that tangled around the snow beast. The thing roared, a high-pitched yowl that shattered the ice on the tree branches above their heads. A heap of icy snow fell over the three of them, nearly burying them.

"Owen, Ianto, do you read me?" Jack called over the open link.

Ianto dug snow out of his earpiece. "Loud and clear, we've netted one of the beasts," he called over it. The beast floundered in the snow, trying to make a break for it, but Owen tackled it, grabbing onto the mesh. "And we've gotten a bit of snow on us now, when the Abominable Snow Thing's voice knocked down a standard boat load of snow from the treetops."

"We're on the way: just hold that thing down," Gwen's voice called, the sound of footsteps on icy snow rustling in the background.

The second line popped in Ianto's ear. "Did I hear you got buried in snow?" Jack asked, clearly hoping for a yes.

"Not another word about that till this thing is contained," Ianto grumbled, as one of the thing's long, skinny, perhaps even twig-like arms poked through the mesh and tried to flail at his face.

"Oooh, I take that as a veiled 'yes'. I sense hot tea and warm blankets in front of a blazing fire in our future," Jack twitted, as the line closed again, a moment before both he and Gwen came crunching out of the depths of the snowy forest, more net guns in hand...
