I like a HUGE variety of music, mostly at least a little bit of everything. I refer to myself as a 'music slut' because I pretty much want all the music I can get at any given time. Maybe the correct term would be 'music nympho?' Eh...whatever. I am a fan, but try my hardest not to go into stalker territory with my fannish ways.
In the last three weeks I have been lucky enough to see three big shows.
On the 30th I saw ZZTop and Aerosmith in Tulsa with K. This show was definitely the most subdued of the three, but seeing it with K (a HUGE Aerosmith fan) totally rocked. I actually got to spend close to four days with K, something I haven't gotten to do since we were roommates. I'll talk more about that later...ZZTop and Aerosmith are definitely getting older, but Steven Tyler kept the audience entertained and was way more lively than ZZTop. We had fun and I can't wait for Aerosmith's forthcoming album *crosses fingers*
A little more than a week later my brother drove out and we went to see Cruefest 2 in KC. Five bands played: Chant CIty Devils, Drowning Pool, Theory of a Deadman, Godsmack and Motley Crue. Neither my brother nor I found Chant City Devils memorable in the least. Drowning Pool put on an awesome show and I walked away with someone's setlist reminder :D Theory of a Deadman rocked out and kept the crowd involved. Godsmack came on and put to rest all rumors that the band was breaking up, they had just needed a little time off the road after 10 years of nearly nonstop touring. They fucking ROCKED out. Just ngh!!! Sully took his shirt off and, well, I really like scruff and ink *slurp* Then they brought out another drum set and Sully played with Shannon, and I apparently have a small thing for drummers*shrug*
Motley Crue came out and played the entirety of Dr Feelgood in honor of the album's 20th anniversary, and I really only knew a few songs off that album. I ended up keeping an eye on a teeny tiny sixteen year old who came to the show with her mother. She was having problems with her back by the time Crue came on and told me that she'd recently been in a car accident. She was exhausted and overheated, and her mother didn't want to leave the pit. So being the gooey soft-hearted person I usually manage to hide from people, I kept an eye on her and kept her upright through all of Crue's set. Obviously this meant that even had I known more than the four or so songs I could sing along to, my attention was elsewhere. sidenote-I am loathe to give anyone parenting advice not being a parent myself. That said, if your sixteen year old daughter is possibly going to pass out in the pit from overheating, don't leave her in the hands of strangers to watch over! Those strangers may want to enjoy the show themselves, but more importantly she is your responsibility and you need to understand that if she's going to pass out in the pit she should probably be taken out of the pit and you should go with her!!! Grrr Argh!!!!-end rant. So to recap Crufest 2: my brother and I basically agreed that the middle three bands put on the best shows and we enjoyed them the most. I am now looking forward to Godsmack's new album to come out next year.
Two days after Cruefest my brother and I drove up to St Louis to see Green Day. We stood in line for two hours before they let us into the Scottrade Center:( Once we got down to the floor venue security had everyone sit down. My brother and I found ourselves next to one of the couples we'd stood near in line and we chatted for a bit. Franz Ferdinand opened and the whole floor stood en masse and suddenly we were all packed together. They put on a pretty good show, and the guy next to me kept remarking on how much the lead singer sounded like Jim Morrison. Green Day came on and holy fuck do they know how to put on a show!!! They played for at least two hours with minimal breaks and kept the energy up the whole time. I liked how they integrated songs from 21st Century Breakdown and American Idiot while still managing to play some of the older stuff. I was able to sing along with a lot of the songs, although the younger people around me knew more of them than I did. Billie Joe pulled people up on stage a few times for various things, he pulled up a guy and a girl to sing lead on Longview and the guy will forever be know as "you stupid mother fucker."
Watch to see some EPIC fail at the end *giggle* I had so much fun at this show!! We left and I drove home still wired and sang along to my brother's copy of Dookie. I liked this show enough that I seriously contemplated buying tickets to the show in KC the next night and driving up to see them by myself. I regret not actually going through with it. The show was awesome, definitely the most energetic of the three and probably my favorite because of that.
