Wrapping My Head Around Second Person

Oct 05, 2011 16:01

I've been reading a book on writing (gee, what a surprise!) and one of the things that stood out to me was the focus on first and third person. Naturally, most writing I'm familiar with deals with either of those points of view, but I'd hoped for a bit more about second person.

From my own perspective, I find it really hard to consider writing in second person, given the emphasis on "you". It almost seems that second person was built more for poetry than prose, given how the writing sample from the book (from Bright Lights, Big City) read. Sure, it was prose, but I could easily see it turned into poetry.

Has anyone out there tried to write in second person?
