She's worn a mask her entire life. The other Shayera had lost hers, and she didn't dare wear her own, so reluctantly, she has gone bare-faced here. Inza never stares, and after she joins the League, the rest only stare because of what they think she's done.
Now she wears the mask of herself.
When he comes back to her at last, as she knows he will, she is accustomed to his body, is used to crying out his name. After, John says he loves her, and she wishes she dared ask whether he means her or her disguise.

Sometimes she forgets.
Because she rejoined them right after the influx of new faces, old times rarely come up in conversation. Weeks pass where she honestly doesn't think of herself as an imposter. She's a refugee in this world regardless, and she almost makes herself believe the other was merely a vivid dream.
When the doctor brings them the news, John's expression speaks of destiny joyfully fulfilled. But Shayera recalls the blood she has shed to bring her here, the sacrifices she's made to create this child with this man, and then the flood of memories threatens to drown her.
