Birthday thoughts

Today is my 28th birthday. Ten years as a legal adult. Crazyness. I remember turning 18, too. Seems so long ago.

My dad has just pulled into Burbank Airport and is taking a cab to the house. I'm meeting him and Hannah there around 2ish, and we're going to lunch at Hugo's Tacos followed by some time in Silverlake at Intelligentsia and the Cheese Store. Then back to the house for an evening rib barbecue by me, featuring a bottle of 2007 Melville Terraces Pinot Noir (my favorite wine EVAR).

This plan has a significant meaning for me, since it was this time last year that I had a plan to barbecue up some ribs for my birthday, only to end up giving the still-in-their-wrap uncooked ribs away to Drew because I had just gotten back from my doctor and I was putting myself under some really severe restrictions due to my sky-high blood pressure. It was an intervention, pure and simple. And that began my whole big weight loss journey that was the hallmark of last summer.

So this time around I'm a year older, I eat a HELL of a lot better, I'm 45 pounds lighter than I was last April 4th, my blood pressure is looking awesome, so dammit, I'm eating some ribs. And I'm gonna feel GREAT about it. I've come a long way to get here.
