I'm completely with you on the WTF moments. It had some good moments, but it had some really strange ones too. Yay for Martha saving the day though! Finally! I was expecting a bit more from Jack. And the Face of Boe thing was unexpected. It completely screws with canon though since the Doctor didn't seem to notice that he was a fixed point in time, but oh well. That's Doctor Who for you.
And is it wrong that I giggled when the Doctor was holding the Master in his arms? It was just way too slashy for a serious death scene. I do think the Master will be back at some point. He's a much better villain than the Daleks, at least in the new series. Lucy picking up the ring... not quite sure where they're going to go with that.
And about Martha leaving... I have a feeling she'll be back. They left it open with the cell phone. I think she's just going to finish school while the Doctor messes around with the Titanic in the Christmas ep. And then she'll be back in the regular series.
I didn't actually notice all the Titanic references until you put them all together. There was also the picture of Nine with that family that didn't go on the Titanic at the last minute.
Yup, there was good, there was bad, and there was flat-out WTF. For someone who is admittedly atheist, RTD really has the whole 'God' concept stuck in his head. And yes - the FOB totally screws with RTD's own canon! Maybe that's why it bothered me so much. At least they didn't make Jack a Time Lord - I was really worried it would turn out to be something like that...Jack in a watch, after missing two years of his life...yadda yadda yadda.
Yup - Martha will be back. Sounds like she'll be taking the Mickey Smith type of role and ringing the Doctor whenever there's a hint of alien invasion going on. I think RTD said in the confidential that he did the Lucy/ring thing as a dangling plot thread in case subsequent writers/producers/people in charge ever want to resurrect the Master. I think that would be implying that they are done with the character for now? Which is too bad - the character of the Master (when written well) is an awesome thing.
Didn't Nine say that he was 'clinging to an iceberg' or something like that after an 'unsinkable' ship went down? Now I'm totally going to have to look into CE's schedule for the next few months....
