After wearing a braid for about 20 years, I started off the new year by chopping it off. My hair is now shorter than it has ever been. So far, I'm loving it. People in places I shop regularly were doing literal double-takes. It's been fun. Both physically and symbolically, I feel like I've removed a weight from my shoulders.
Then Mother Nature doubled down by dumping a huge load of snow on us. :-/ Schools and businesses were actually closed today in our area, and that's a rare thing. S. also took the day off from work, which is even rarer. Granted, after the snow plow went by the berm at the end of our driveway was a few feet high, so no one was going anywhere. He's spent the last six hours running the snowblower so that we aren't completely snowed in.
I feel like this should be titled "Dude, where's my car?"
S. clearing a path to the pole barn.
Daisy will follow me when I'm working outside, but she'd really prefer to stay on the patio, where it's dry.

I finished a sort of quilted cave for the inside of the den today. It's made out of heavy felt and stuffed with Poly-Fil, shaped by two 9-gauge wire hoops that hold it in place as sort of an upside-down U. It's not a perfect solution, but until S. has time to finish building the bigger wooden insulated den for them, it will keep them reasonably warm. The den has a heated pet bed from the ranch supply store on the bottom and a panel heater angled at the entrance to reflect heat inside. Neither of them get hot enough to burn skin or start a fire, but are warm enough to keep them cozy on cold nights and better than a dirt den when we get subzero.
