Christmas in July

Hello all,

Just wanted to give you a quick update of my life:

I'm spending a week and a half (Dec 18th-Dec 28th) on a Baha'i teaching trip to the villages in Samoa. I'm a little nervous cause the villages are like full-on third world country, complete with diseases and extreme lack of comfort. It's crazy, I live in a third world country, how can I be afraid to go to the third-worldiness? I guess it's just a question of control. My apartment may look like a moldly hut, but it's my apt and I control most of what goes on in it. While in the villages, I will have no control over what kind of accommodations, food, or hygiene levels I will be exposed to. Well it'll be an experience and I'm proud of myself for trying, even if I leave half way.

I'll be back for a few days and then leaving for NZ and Australia for two weeks!!! I'm so excited! It'll be so strange to be in civilization again, though. I'll be in Auckland Jan 1 to Jan 4, then Sydney from Jan 4 to Jan 15! I'm soo happy to be doing something different! I'll let you know all about it as it happens!

The strange thing is through all this travel I'm totally missing the holiday season. On Christmas, I'll be in the villages with a Baha'i Family, not celebrating Christmas and New Year's Eve will not exist for me because I'm flying through the International Date Line on the day. I suppose I'm not really missing much cause it is so hot here and feels nothing like Christmas anyway. In fact it feels more like July than Christmas, perhaps where the idea of "Christmas in July" came from. Well I suppose even the biggest Holiday Season lovers (like me) have to take a break from it sometimes, so this year I will be more or less skipping the holidays. I'll have to make it up by having a particularly fantastic holiday season next year.

Happy Holidays! (sort of)

Love,

Meg
