"Work, work, work. Work, work, work..."

:: Work has been tiring but good. I feel like there's a certain stability in my life. Working in Harrods was never on the top of my list (or in my list for that matter) but I'm glad I took the job. I was a bit bewildered when I got the offer and was called in for the interview, because even though I have a great CV, I don't have a great CV for that field. I didn't know anything much about Clive Christian prior to the interview but was keen to find out. Turns out that, even though I never gave a second thought to furniture this intrigued me. The reason being that having read so many novels with beautiful, picturesque interiors I had never had the opportunity to be exposed to them first hand. I always love reading books that describe the four poster beds in detail, or the atmosphere created because of the warmth breathed out of the wood in a living room.

:: Clive Christian bases his designs on British eras. The Victorian, Edwardian, Regency and for the younger generations Alpha and Architectural. They are truly beautiful. Most people who come to our showroom just gawp in awe and stare! Some are even afraid to step on the rug, asking permission first to enter this 'holy kingdom'! LOL! It's fun, but tiring. There are many slow days and that's the problem. Clive Christian is very expensive (and is the creator of the most expensive perfume that goes for 115,000 per bottle!) but there are more customers than you'd think. Even after the recession, people are willing to spend a load of cash for a table.

:: The worst thing is being in high heels all day. I never wear high heels outside work and being in them for so long is an ordeal! Harrods has so many rules we have to follow, including dress code. Urgh. It's an interesting experience though. I'm honoured they hired me (I heard people talking during our training, about how happy they were to be hired and that it was their life's dream) but I can't imagine me doing it for the rest of my life. I see it as an interesting experience, a good company on my CV and a way to get one foot in England.

:: To end this dull, job-related post, I ad a picture of me after the first days of training which were exhausting holding my Harrods badge! I look stoned I know, but it was because I was tired! I swear!
