:: I always get extremely frustrated when I can't find tickets for shows I want to see. For the past two years, I've been wanting to desperately watch this production but either couldn't find tickets or didn't have time to catch it. But I finally watched it! The production?
'War Horse'. Words cannot describe how amazing it was. The story was based on Michael Morpurgo's book with the same title, and deals with the life of a horse during WWI. The story is about friendship, war, perseverance but above all it's a tribute to all the horses that died during the war. One million horses were taken to France from Britain. Only 62.000 were brought back. Tragic. We always talk about how many men died but seem to forget the animals that played such an important role during the war. That's why this play is genuinely unique and beautiful. Another reason why it's unique is that
it uses puppets throughout the play. The technique is stunning.
The horse's movements are so lifelike it's simply breathtaking! When the puppets first come on stage you are fully aware of the puppeteers but as the show continues the puppets kinda turn into flesh and blood! And if that wasn't enough to show how brilliant it was, the music was extremely moving.
Tim van Eyken's voice is quite eery
in a good way. It blends in perfectly with the tone of the show. I DEFINITELY recommend it to everyone!
:: Another show I managed to watch and was really excited about was
'Love Never Dies'. Despite all the mixed reviews by critics and audiences alike I have to say I like the show. It's basically the continuation of 'The Phantom of the Opera'. It's set on Coney Island so there are a lot of colors and extravagance. Quite different from the first one which was set in Paris and had an elegance about it. Not quite sure if it's going to be as timeless as it's predecessor but the songs are pretty good (especially
'Till I Hear You Sing',
'Love Never Dies',
'Look With Your Heart',
'Beneath A Moonless Sky' and
'Once Upon Another Time'). The Phantom was played by the brilliant Ramin Karimloo. I actually saw him a couple of years ago as the Phantom in 'Phantom of the Opera'. The man is fantastic! Not to mention
incredibly hot! Not that you can tell in the production but I thought it was worth mentioning! His voice gives me goosebumps! Anyway. I loved him and really enjoyed the show.
