Monty Python Live!: The Book

One of the latest Python items I've bought recently is the "Monty Python Live!" book. It's basically an account of their days on the road, doing live shows. It has quite a long section in the beginning where they mention their recollections of each show and then mostly transcripts. Actually most of the book is transcripts from the various sketches they did onstage, from the Parrot Sketch to the Pope and Michelangelo. I enjoy reading Python transcripts. It gives a very different feel to the sketch. You appreciate and respect their talent in writing more.

It has more interesting stuff in it, but what really made me giddy and fangirlie were stories Carol Cleveland remembered. First off, we all have to admit that we wonder what went on between the Pythons behind the scenes. Did they go out for drinks (we know this, ok)? Did they vacation together? Did they go crazy and destroy hotel rooms??

Well, Carol provides some answers to these questions!

"We left the bar and headed for Mike's bedroom, where we jumped up and down on the bed, had a mad pillow fight, pushed furniture around the room, switched paintings and curtains from one place to another, rolled up the carpet, grabbed the TV and opened the window with a view to throwing it out...and then...we collapsed in a heap of laughter. So much for our attempt to trash the room...all we did was rearrange the furniture.

On another occasion a group of us returned late to our hotel and fancied a dip in the pool. We stripped down to our undies and jumped in, all except for Graham, who just stripped off! After our swim I handed out some towels but Graham said, 'No Thanks,' and dashed out. He streaked, naked and dripping wet along the corridor towards the hotel lobby before disappearing up the stairs. At that moment an elderly couple appeared in the doorway and froze with open mouths. They must have thought they'd accidentally stepped into one of those bath houses!"

She also gives some VERY interesting facts regarding her sex life with the Pythons!!! (Nudge, nudge, say no more!)

Hope you enjoyed this little snippet! If you haven't bought the book yet, go out IMMEDIATELY and purchase one! The Pythons demand it! We have to pay for John Cleese's next divorce! LOL! Too soon for divorce jokes??
