After careful consideration, I decided to sell Helga. She had a blown head-gasket, and rear end trouble, and when a guy offered me $500 for her I sold her. Which had me crying most of the day.
I feel so stupid, getting emotionally attached to a truck. We took her to Fest though, last year, and she was a woman-owned truck even before I got her. I wish I could have donated her to the workers at Fest so they could put her to work on the Land or something. Between car insurance and gas prices I couldn't afford to drive her anymore anyway.
Which leaves the bike as my principal form of transportation. I am up to about 100 miles a week on the bike, and I have plans to build a new work trailer and a trailer for personal use.
Biking the 21 miles to and from work is a trip. You see things that you just don't see from a car. I've seen a blue heron, a live fox and a herd of dear up close, mostly because I was coming toward them from down-wind and a bike is quiet enough to not give them a lot of warning. In fact, thet deer were actually close enough that had they darted the wrong way I might have had an unpleasant collision with one.
I suppose this reduces my carbon footprint. It's certainly making me healthier. I still miss Helga though.
