Children's Car Seats

This came across another list I'm on.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azgBhZfcqaQ

(warning - tear alert).

Marguerite is still in a 5 point harness, and her current car seat should be good for a while.  I'm not sure what the set up is for the seat when she gets above 40 lbs (the seat is supposed to be good until 100 lbs as it converts to a booster).

I couldn't watch much of this. margaretc February 19 2008, 19:21:14 UTC
What failed in that particular crash was the seatbelt, not the seat (I could only watch the first little bit of it). A lot of the 5-point seats still rely on the seatbelt to keep them in place anyway (those without LATCH, anyway, any pre-2003 car, I think).
Not that it helps much, but it's important to me to tug on the seatbelt a bit after I plug it in (I do this to tighten it, every time), and I'm very conscious of the seatbelt *click* when I strap him in.
I also am a very conscientious driver, I practice defensive driving, and I have a very sturdy car which is quite nimble and good at keeping us out of crashes. All of these things make a difference.

It is always good to be reminded of how vulnerable passengers are, but this video was designed to tear out your heart and stomp on it, not to be a comprehensive study of car accidents and their liabilities and inherent dangers.
