The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger ★★

I have waited almost a whole week before posting my verdict on the book. I was REALLY excited to read this book because I love time travel, and I enjoy romantical stories, and I really really liked the film (which got medium to negative reviews because people said the book was so much better).

But I find myself displeased upon finishing the book. There were things that I will say the book had that the film didn't. There were characters that had to be axed, some characters that were axed that probably didn't have to be, and some storylines that didn't get to have any screentime, and that's sad. I really liked everything about Henry's work situation. I hearted Kimmy so much. I liked the aspect of Henry meeting up with his former and past selves more often than we saw in the movie in order to do stuff like... learn pick-pocketing, lock-picking, etc. That was cool. I get/don't get the change of Henry's first meeting with Alba because I guess it did take less screentime to do it the way the film did, rather than the way the book did, but yeah. idk.

But I just didn't love the book the way I wanted to. I probably had expectations that were much higher than they should have been. But some things just REALLY bothered me. First, some reviewers have said the book is a little over-dramatic, and I would wholly agree with them. Like... Henry loses both his feet? Really? And the whole Gomez NEVER getting over Clare? -sigh- Mostly I was disappointed with how the ending read to me like Clare pretty much waited her entire life for that final meeting with Henry. Maybe she lived her life up a little bit, but, to me, it just felt like she didn't. I just. fjdkal;dfja; I found myself unsatisfied in how the author handled about a third of the story. -shrug- Oh well. I wasn't *seriously* displeased with it until the end. It was fine, but I'll probably never read it again by choice.
