The Time Traveller's Wife 2009 ★★★★
If I'd seen this movie when I wanted to initially or after reading the book, I think it's safe to say I would not have liked it as much as I did when I watched it this week.
However, my love for time travel and for romantic movies and for Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams... Plus beautiful cinematography and scoring. Yeah. I loved it. I nearly cried, and I was watching it at work. I only didn't cry because I had to pause the film to answer the phone, and so then I was able to break up the emotional impact at the end. And just. It was so good.
I've ordered the book now, and so I'm really looking forward to reading it.
Oh, and I had to get a new book because I need something new to read (nevermind that I have a lot of books that I own that I haven't read, shush) since I finished reading THIS BOOK on Tuesday:
To Kill a Mockingbird 1960 ★★★★★
I love that I inadvertantly finally reread this book during the 50th anniversary year of its publication. This is the first book that I read for school that I liked. It was my freshman year of high school, and I remember our teacher being in love with it and affectionately refering to it as 'TKAM.'
This book is simple and it is beautiful. It's endearing and entertaining. And while it is incredibly simple, it's also rich and full of so many layers and so many lessons. I feel a person could read it at 15 and read it again at 55 and still be just as touched and learn something new.
And Atticus is... well, he's Atticus. And I knew there was a reason that Matt is listed as Matticus in my phone - they're two people that I just respect so much. I found out there is actually a monument - erected in 2008 or so - to Atticus Finch in Alabama and the impact he has had on the legal profession, and I think that is wonderful. I think it shows that people WANT to be good, they want to be admirable, and there is hope for mankind.
