The Purple Rose of Cairo is a movie-length study on fiction. Unfortunately, the main character, in addition to having lots of interesting things to say about the role of fiction, is being abused by her husband.
So the movie ends up failing because what I ended up being most concerned with her leaving her lout of a husband, and anything in addition I viewed with whether or not this would help her leave him.
