a handle

I'm not freaking out about editing anymore. At least, I think I have a handle on it. I'm still peeved about a few things, but for now....my system is in place.

I just finished the final pass on Episode 8. I'm posting episode 6 this Sunday, so that gives an idea of where I am and what I'm doing. I'm gonna go ahead and break down all the steps here.

So, every episode has different phases. These phases are:

  1. Blocking Audio / Video - Importing and aligning the video and audio
  2. First Pass Edit - Seeing what's actually in the video to understand where it starts and ends.
  3. Title - Title of the episode for the title screen.
  4. Meme it/ 2nd pass - Inserting memes and audio over swearing and into funny places.
  5. Final Pass - The final check to make sure it's as close to done as I can get it.
  6. End Screen - Making sure the end title screen which reads "no ___ were harmed during the production of this video" is relevant.
  7. Title Card - Making a thumbnail for YouTube/TikTok
  8. Export - Exporting the video so I can snag a clip from it for the previous episode & make a TikTok of it.
  9. TikTok - Making the Tiktok for that episode.
  10. Next Episode Clip - Not done until the next episode has passed Step 8.
  11. FINAL EXPORT - The finalized video, which will go up on YouTube.

That's...pretty much everything that I do (at least, the streamline list of all the things I do) when I'm editing a video. The process really relies on having the next video ready to go before the current video I'm working on is COMPLETELY done...but it's still the easiest way for me to make sure I have a consistent sort of end result.

Anyway, I think I heard the sound of the video finishing up its export process. So I'm going to hit the grindstone again, and see if I can't get episode 9 partially done as well.
