Movies and Pictures

Two movies for the week, one disc of Stephen King's Nightmares and Dreamscapes (3 episodes) and Shopgirl.

On Monday I went to my friend Holly's apartment to swim in the pool. Holly was reading stories out of a Grimm's fairy tale book.

On Tuesday we caught up on an old episode of Law & Order since the DVR was dumb and it didn't record the season finale of SVU. (I had to work that night so I didn't know it wasn't taping)

On Wednesday all hell broke loose over Greensboro. Apparently two thunder storms crashed into each other and became this super scary crazy storm. It was insane. I had to pick up my friend from Downtown around 6:30 which is right when it happened. It was hailing and flash flooding and raining so hard I couldn't even see.

Thursday was boring, I didn't do anything interesting. I watched a Netflix movie that I had had for a few days (on Wednesday I watched one that I had for a few weeks)

On Friday we wandered around downtown for first Friday. On the first Friday of each month, the galleries and shops stay open late. There are refreshments and music. This was in the bathroom of one of the antique stores. We got some cool plates from an old printing press.

On Saturday Curtis and I went on another adventure. We drove a few counties to the south to go to the Town Creek Indian Mound. It is the oldest NC historic site and the only one dedicated to the history of Native Americans. This is me walking through the entrance to the town site.

On Sunday after a busy day at Party City we went to the first Music for a Sunday Evening in the Park (MUSEP) event. There was a swing band at Center City Park in downtown. The water ice guy was there. And there was a person walking a polar bear (not really, but the dog was so huge, so white, and so furry that it looked like one).

Shopgirl (2005) - Lovely but lonely Mirabelle (Claire Danes) feels purposeless selling gloves in a world where they're hardly ever worn. But her sad-sack days are soon enlivened by Ray (Steve Martin), a rich suitor who showers her with sex and attention. Mirabelle soaks it all up but yearns for more commitment, which Ray can't give. So when she meets the penniless but sincere Jeremy (Jason Schwartzman), she wonders if it's time to give up one man for the other.

It was cute and enjoyable. I'm just glad I didn't have to see a sex scene between Claire Danes and Steve Martin. I don't really know what else to say about it. It was a bit slow at times and they used this one song over and over. Oh and at random times, Steve Martin would start narrating and the scene would slow down.

Nightmares & Dreamscapes (2006) - The first one was about a filmmaker and his genius younger brother who find a way to rid the world of war and meanness with unforseen consequences (it starred Ron Livingston - Office Space and Henry Thomas - little boy from E.T.). The second was about a horror author who buys a scary painting and weird things happen (it starred Tom Berenger). The final one was about a guy who gets out of prison and despite having vowed to go straight has a lucrative proposition fall in his lap (it starred Jeremy Sisto - L&O).

I liked the first one the best, it was sad but was a good mix of fantasy and morality. Then the third one which was more adventure and action than horror. It's funny because Jeremy Sisto has been on L&O for 2 years now so I've seen him a lot. But as soon as he showed up on screen I thought "OMG, Jeremy Sisto is hot!" Then the second one, it was the most "horrorish" but that frigging painting was just too creepy.
