since last update

i still haven't uploaded my pictures...that probably won't be happening until after this semester is over (December 14th).

We saw a production of the Little Shop of Horrors in Winston-Salem. Later that weekend we spent a few hours at the Barbecue Festival in Lexington. For Halloween, I was Wednesday Addams and Curtis was Jules - you can see pictures if you are on facebook. We went to a party with a bunch of my fellow graudate students.

I went to a Play Therapy Conference in Raleigh last Friday and it was very cool and interesting. I really want to continue on in that area.

This week I volunteered at an event on campus that showcased two different styles of Native American drumming and singing. It was pretty cool and there's a really big powwow coming up in April that I want to go to.

Today we saw Taste of Sunrise which was a bilingual play with both English and ASL. It was really cool. At any time on the stage there were two versions of each character with one talking and one signing and that switched throughout the play. A better description than I could write myself is:
"This bi-lingual play, in American Sign Language and spoken English, takes place in the mind of Tuc as he journeys through memories of his childhood including the fever that took his hearing, the language of nature, and the Deaf school where he is forever changed by the discovery of sign language. After the death of his beloved father, Tuc must navigate the perilous path of loss, love, and language as he struggles to weave a family out of wishes. This play explores Deaf Education and the cultural complexities of Deafness with humor and compassion."

Tomorrow we are going to see the community theater production of The Wizard of Oz. It should be fun, it was last year. Plus it's audience sing-a-long night!

We have only watched one movie since the last update which was a few weeks ago. I just haven't had time with all the papers and hours and everything that's going on. I have a big paper and a group project due next week.

The only movie:

Crank 2006 - Hit man Chev Chelios (Jason Statham) tears through the streets of Los Angeles in a race to save his own life and his girlfriend Eve (Amy Smart) in this ticking time bomb of a thriller. The freelance killer is poisoned when a mob job goes wrong, and the clock starts ticking when Chelios learns he can elude death if he keeps his adrenaline pumping. With no time to waste, Chelios rampages through the city hoping to save Eve and find an antidote.

It was another one of those movies that took itself too seriously. It was weird but still okay I guess. What is the funniest is that there was an option for "family friendly audio." um...have any of you seen this movie? making the audio family friendly is not going to counteract all the blood and nakedness and sex and violence. heh
