but that hasn't stopped me from putting my laptop down and heading towards curtis' computer to look something up.
so hopefully i'll get my pictures uploaded and posted soonish...i.e. within the next couple of weeks.
the most interesting thing that has happened since last time was that curtis and i went westward for our fall break (beginning of last week). i worked on the saturday and sunday before that and then on monday and tuesday we headed out for break. we went to asheville on monday and went to the biltmore estate. it was crazy. i just walked around staring at the ceilings, they were so ornate. i want to see the ceiling design catalogue. we walked around the gardens for a bit then we went to the farm and watched a goat try and eat a tent. then we got a free tour of the winery (self-guided) and we got to taste 6 different wines, one of which i might actually drink.
then we met holly in asheville for dinner. we at the Bier Garden and then wandered around for a while. asheville is a strange little town full of hippies. we sat outside a co-op and people watched the scary punks that were hanging outside the scary punk place. and we watched a guy talking on his cell phone in the middle of the road try not to get hit by cars.
then we went and camped at a KOA overnight next to a puddle (well it was supposed to be a lake). that was the first time that we had used the tent since we got it for christmas. good thing it was a very simply tent to put together.
we left the campground in the morning and drove to grandfather mountain. it was a foggy day but it was still beautiful. we actually ran into someone who is from ellicott city (i was wearing my umbc sweatshirt). so i got all excited before we left because i remembered to bring my binoculars and i always forget to take my binoculars anywhere that i could use them. so we took them and then when we got to the mountain we parked in the lower lot and then hiked .4 mile up to the top. of course, i left the damn binoculars in the car. oh well. after going up to the top and walking across the mile high swinging bridge (which we saw from the ground later when we drove by, it was cool), then we went and ate and went to the nature areas. they had otters, deers, and moutain lions which were all sleeping. there was an eagle that had been shot. there were some bears and they were so adorable. there were four of them and they pretty much sat there on their butts staring up at us. you'll be able to see better once i post pictures.
then we came home and i did some schoolwork until it was time for the next triad stage play. it was sleuth and it was great. talking about it will ruin it for anyone who might see it so i won't. just believe me when i say it was an awesome whodunit. and the stage was absolutely amazing. they are so detailed it's crazy. they don't really have a "backstage" area and this set took up all the space. it was a guy's living room i guess and there was a staircase and some columns in the middle. there were things hanging on the back of the columns which no one in the audience could even see unless they walked over and looked at it.
school is going well. i have a midterm on wednesday and i have a lot of papers coming up but it's going.
so we've only watched 3 movies since the last entry but i'll still lj cut them since this entry is getting kinda long. we watched The Wiz, Must Love Dogs, and 16 Blocks.
The Wiz 1978 - The funky "Ease on Down the Road" is among the hummable tunes in Motown's lavish interpretation of L. Frank Baum's ageless tale. When bashful Harlem schoolteacher Dorothy (Diana Ross) exits a family gathering to search for lost pooch Toto, she's caught in a blizzard and transported to the magical land of Oz. Ross' stellar supporting cast includes Michael Jackson, funnyman Nipsey Russell, the incomparable Lena Horne and Richard Pryor as the Wiz.
i had seen this before back in high school chorus. i didnt really like it as much the second time around. it's actually a lot scarier than the other version.
Must Love Dogs 2005 - Divorcée Sarah Nolan (Diane Lane) isn't ready for romance. But when her sister (Elizabeth Perkins) signs her up for an online dating service, love-seeking mates come calling. While one Mr. Maybe (Dermot Mulroney) is rife with possibilities, another (John Cusack) is even more intriguing. Still, there's just one problem: While this second eligible bachelor's ad states that his dream woman "Must Love Dogs," neither he nor Sarah actually owns one.
it was a cute romantic comedy. not as laugh out loud funny as it seemed to be. another one of those movies where they play all the funny stuff in the previews. one of the funny things from the previews wasn't even in the movie, it was in a deleted scene, i hate when they do that.
i actually had to watch this movie for my counseling theories class. i picked it out of a list and now i have to decide which character i want to write a paper about. i have to pick a theory and talk about how i would apply it to one of the characters.
16 Blocks 2006 - Tasked with escorting chatty prosecution witness Eddie Bunker (rapper and seasoned actor Mos Def) from police custody to a nearby courthouse, aging New York City cop Jack Mosley (Bruce Willis) reluctantly gears up for the 16-block trek. But with powerful forces intent on keeping them from reaching their destination, they'll be lucky to make it there alive. David Morse co-stars in director Richard Donner's action thriller.
a pretty good action flick. i love bruce willis, and i think i'm starting to like mos def a lot in movies too. bruce willis is getting old though, they have to make his characters bald and have physical issues, hehe.
we also watched all the rest of the special features on the knocked up special edition dvd. that movie is frickin awesome. the only annoying thing is seth rogen's laugh, i can't take too much of that.
