weekly movie post

And Boo! to the rumors going around the Crossing Jordan is canceled. (Hooray Beer!) I agree that the show was going downhill and it makes sense but that was a horrible SERIES finale! Come on!

i love how on flixster, the only picture uploaded for nick nolte is his mug shot.

In other news: my legs hate me today.

I can't even think if curtis and i did anything worth mentioning this week. we finished cleaning the house on Monday or Tuesday so it's all nice and sparkly clean. on friday we went and ate at brixx (which is my new favorite restaurant) and then we went to center city park and walked around. then we went and wandered through an art exhibit filled with giant pottery. then we went shopping. on saturday morning we went downtown for the arts & antiques fesitval that we went to last year. it seemed like it was both bigger and smaller this year but we did go a lot earlier. there were more tables set up with vendors from outside of greensboro (but still nc) but there were less tables out in front of local stores. i got two really cool anklets and a pair of earrings. then we had to rush home and change and rush back out to go to a wedding and we hit traffic right as we got on the highway...but we made it exactly on time. one of my coworkers from youth focus got married. it was such a cute ceremony and the weather was absolutely PERFECT for a wedding. :-)

This was a random movie week. For a few of them curtis picked numbers and we went with 2 out of 3 of his random choices.

The movies were Alpha Dog, Meet the Fockers, Hotel Rwanda, and The Devil Wears Prada (I watched this one by myself cause curtis is in DE for a few days).

Alpha Dog 2006 - Nick Cassavetes helmed this gritty, character-driven drama based on the true story of Jesse James Hollywood -- one of the youngest men ever to appear on the FBI's Most Wanted list. Planning to follow in his criminal father's footsteps, drug-peddling Johnny Truelove (Emile Hirsch) finds himself in dutch with the feds and facing a lifetime behind bars. The high-powered cast includes Justin Timberlake, Sharon Stone and Bruce Willis.

It was a pretty good movie...it ranks up there on my most depressing movies list but it didnt really make me cry. I felt like the documentary-ish feel took away from the movie and the print was so tiny that I could barely even read it anyway. Timberlake's performance wasn't really as awesome as I've heard it was. The movie is about a truely horrible story...they could have stopped things and it didn't have to end the way it did.

Meet the Fockers 2004 - In this sequel to the hilarious Meet the Parents, ex-CIA man Jack Byrnes ( Robert De Niro) and his wife Dina (Blythe Danner) head for Florida to meet son-in-law-to-be Greg's ( Ben Stiller) mom and dad, Bernie ( Dustin Hoffman) and Roz (Barbra Streisand) Focker. Unlike their happily matched offspring, the senior Byrnes and Fockers find themselves in a situation of opposites that don't attract!

I liked this one better than the first I think. Maybe because I love Dustin Hoffman and I can't believe that he's 70! I thought it was really cute.

Hotel Rwanda 2005 - Amid the holocaust of internecine tribal fighting in Rwanda that sees the savage butchering of hundreds of thousands of men, women and children, one ordinary man (Oscar nominee Don Cheadle) musters the courage to save more than 1,000 helpless refugees by sheltering them in the hotel he manages. Sophie Okonedo, Nick Nolte and Joaquin Phoenix co-star in this powerful film (sort of an African version of Schindler's List) directed by Terry George.

I don't know how to explain this movie without being cliche or sounding like a tagline. I mean it really just was a powerful story about one ordinary man in Rwanda who saved 1200 lives. It was a very informative movie and very touching. I think Don Cheadle was just the perfect pick to play Paul.

The Devil Wears Prada 2006 - After taking a job in the Big Apple as assistant to powerful fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly ( Meryl Streep, in an Oscar-nominated role), small-town girl Andrea Sachs (Anne Hathaway ) is thrilled -- at first. But the magic soon wears off, leaving Andrea feeling battered and used -- and wondering whether working for the boss from hell will pay off. Helmed by David Frankel, this adaptation of Lauren Weisberger's best-seller also stars Stanley Tucci .

This was cute. I thought it was going to be funnier. It was more just amusing than laugh out loud funny. It seems like Anne Hathaway is getting type-cast into these "Cinderella" type roles. And Meryl Streep seems a lot like Cruella De Ville in this movie (I think Glenn Close actually played Cruella).

I was working on this last week but because it was so insane I just didnt have time. I went through the rotten tomatoes worst to best list of movies based on comics (strips, books, manga, and graphic novels). I turned it into one of those silly movie memes where you bold the ones that you've seen. My comments are in italics.
