a weekend adventure

so i know i must mention this everytime we go up north but...why does the entire state of virginia smell bad? and on the way home there was a long section that smelled like a porta-potty! i can take the cow smell, it's natural even though it's not a nice smell...and the elephant ass...but porta-potty? i thought it was new jersey that smelled like poop.

so we left for the north around 4 on thursday. our usually uneventful and calm drive was interrupted a bit because there was a tractor trailer on fire on 81-N outside of roanoke and so the two-lane highway was closed in that direction. we had to follow a detour and get onto 11. but luckily 11 parallels 81 for the most part and we just drove for a bit before getting back on 81. at one point when we were first directed onto 11 there was a lot of traffic and we weren't really moving. so i got out my book and started reading. a girl driving the car next to me looked over at me funny; she was on her cell phone.

so we got to erin's around midnight i think. she didnt have any furniture so curtis and i spread out comforters in an empty room for a bed. on friday we got up and met rinaldy and john at arundel mills for lunch. i went and visited a few folks at fye that were still working there. john called out of work so he could eat lunch with us. we went to johnny rockets and it was hilarious because john and rinaldy are exactly the same as they were two years ago. and a sidenote...they got rid of Fuzio's!!! grr. so then we wandered around the mall for a bit before i met phillip to get a binder full of letters. i dont know who knows the story but i'm transcribing letters from the early 1900s, i can give you more background if you want...i might look for the lj entry that talks about it later. then curtis and i wandered around the store some more and then went back to fye to say goodbye and see people who came in later. we ran into nazli who was way happier to see me than i thought she would be. she was trying to get me to come back and work on the weekends (because i mentioned to her that we were probably coming back to the area). she said she would pay me $8.50! oh goody! :-P but then when i said it probably wouldn't be for another two years, then she said nevermind and that if she was still there in two years to dig her a grave.

then we drove back to erin's to get ready for hte game. we couldn't park in erin's new neighborhood because they only get one visitor pass to share with the whole neighborhood. so on thursday night erin went over to her old house and borrowed one of theirs. so curtis and i just kept parking and then walking back to erin's. though we had to return the parking pass at 9am on saturday and curtis and i didnt feel like getting up that early. so we stared at the signs for a bit and decided that it was safe to park without a permit until noon (which was when we wanted to leave).

so the o's game. it was me and curtis, erin, and sharon and carl. damn the frickin o's. at least i got a free floppy hat with the big chin bird mascot on it. and at least it had a black side so we could turn it over to mourning. but at least it was a good game until the 9th inning. at least we weren't getting totally slaughtered. but it is pretty bad to blow the game like that. afterwards we hung out by the stadium for a bit. then sharon, carl, curtis and i went to the paper moon and met up with erin leatherwood. i tried to get something different but i couldnt...so i just stuck with the black-eyed quesadillas, they are delicious.

then back to erin's for the night. we got up and drove to uncle david's for chere's surprise party (which was actually held on david's birthday). it was great to see everyone again. there were a lot of people there from church and they didnt know i was going to be there. i gave out father's day present, chere's birthday present, christopher's birthday present, and some "spoil benjamin" presents. and i got to swim for a while, ah, so nice.

then we drove back to greensboro after it was all over. we got in around 4am.

went to bed, got up, got ready, and got back out on the road to charlotte. so we got there around 3ish. we went and signed in and got our t-shirts (black) and our event staff lanyards. our volunteer job was to help direct traffic and corps buses in the parking lot and that wasn't starting until 4. so we helped hang some banners inside one of the buildings for the VIP dinner or something. then we went and directed traffic. this was interesting because there were a number of different people saying different things about where the cars were supposed to go even though there was one guy in charge, hehe. so we did that. it was very hot. then we went to the show. i'd never been before and it was pretty entertaining. then we drove back and it was back to the grind the next morning.

so randomness:

one thing i've noticed now that i'm working out more regularly is that my biceps are beastly compared to the rest of my arm muscles. i have a muscle sculpting dvd and i can hardly do any of the arm things with my 3lb weights...but when it's time to do biceps i can do 6lbs and my arms don't even care. and my leg muscles kind of suck too, hopefully these things will get better as i do them.

curtis and i now own animaniacs, pinky & the brain, and season 1 of fraggle rock on dvd. yes. which means we now have the following tv shows on dvd: 2 seasons of the simpsons, 2 seasons of alf, 1 season of macgyver, 1 season of chapelle's show, the white shadow, and the other ones i've mentioned. out of all of these i've only watched the 1st season of alf in it's entirety, some of the 2nd season, and i've watched 3 episodes of macgyver. so we need to start watching these things. not to mention all the shows we already watch on regular tv: pee wee's playhouse, saved, project runway, and psych.

did i ever mention that there's an "exotic carwash" near party city? i drive past it twice when i have to work there and i only just noticed that it was more than a gentlemen's club just a week or two ago.

and that's about it.

let me post this before it gets too long.

exercise, birthday, fye, orioles, exotic carwash, paper moon, driving, dci, letters, tv shows, baseball
