books and movies and possible full-time job oh my!

so lots of stuff to write about. so now i read my livejournal on curtis' computer and i update it on this computer...can't wait till i get a laptop...who knows when that will happen.

so i'll start with the beginning of the subject...you'll just have to wait to the end for the job info. so i've read two books lately:

Little Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner

Becky is a plump, sexy chef who has a wonderful husband and baby girl, a restaurant that's received citywide acclaim - and the mother-in-law from hell. Kelly is an event planner who's struggling to balance work and motherhood while dealing with an unemployed husband who seems content to channel-surf for eight hours a day. Ayinde's basketball superstar husband breaks her trust at her most vulnerable moment, putting their new family even more in the public eye. Then there's Lia, a Philadelphia native who has left her Hollywood career behind, along with her husband, and a tragic secret to start her life all over again.
From prenatal yoga to postbirth sex, Little Earthquakes is a frank, funny, fiercely perceptive take on the comedies and tragedies of love and marriage.

this book was great. it was very emotional and very "real." i laughed out loud several times and had to share various passages with curtis. it was an easy light read. :-)

The Face by Dean Koontz

He's Hollywood's most dazzling star, whose flawless countenance inspires the worship of millions and fires the hatred of one twisted soul. His perfectly ordered existence is under siege as a series of terrifying, enigmatic "messages" breaches the exquisitely calibrated security systems of his legendary Bel Air estate.
The boxes arrive mysteriously, one by one, at Channing Manheim's fortified compound. The threat implicit in their bizarre, disturbing contents seems to escalate with each new delivery. Manheim's security chief, ex-cop Ethan Truman, is used to looking beneath the surface of things. But until he entered the orbit of a Hollywood icon, he had no idea just how slippery reality could be. Now this good man is all that stands in the way of an insidious killer - and forces that eclipse the most fevered fantasies of a city where dreams and nightmares are the stuff of daily life. As a seemingly endless and ominous rain falls over southern California, Ethan will test the limits of perception and endurance in a world where the truth is as thin as celluloid and answers can be found only in the illusory intersection of shadow and light.
Enter a world of marvelous invention, enchantment, and implacable intent, populated by murderous actors and the walking dead, hit men and heroes, long-buried dreams and never-dying hope. Here a magnificent mansion is presided over by a Scottish force of nature known as Mrs. McBee, before whom all men tremble. A mad French chef concocts feasts for the mighty and the malicious. Ming du Lac, spiritual adviser to the stars, has a direct line to the dead. An aptly named cop called Hazard will become Ethan's ally, an anarchist will sow discord and despair, and a young boy named Fric, imprisoned by celebrity and loneliness, will hear a voice telling him or the approach of something unimaginably evil. Traversing this extraordinary landscape, Ethan will face the secrets of his own tragic past and the unmistakable premotion of his impending violent death as he races against time to solve the macabre riddles of a modern-day beast.

This book was also good. It sucked me in especially in the end. I have yet to read a Dean Koontz book that I didn't enjoy. the character that was the anarchist was very interesting even though he was evil. you couldn't help but be intrigued by him.

next on to movie. so i've discovered that we have a channel called FLIX. something about "cool classics for the movie generation." i watched single white female yesterday and tonight (if i can stay up long enough) i want to watch heathers. they seem to play just movies from the 80s and 90s and there are no commercials.

in other news...our kitchen and part of our dining area flooded yesterday. a pipe in a neighboring apartment sprung a leak. they came and wet vacced up the water and left a fan to finish drying it. the carpet people are supposed to stop by tomorrow to check out things.

and so the big news is that i might possibly have a full-time job soon. so cross your fingers (just one set) and we'll see what happens. i sent a letter to the human resources manager about my interest in the position so hopefully i'll sit down and have an "interview" with the director of the RTC, whom i've worked with on several shifts. yay! so excited. but trying not to get too excited just in case, they have someone interviewing for the positon on friday.

and i worked another 21 hours. party city first and then 16 hours at the RTC.

movies, apartment, youth focus, books
