but the debate was on and george bush's voice was grating on my nerves and i couldnt concentrate. so this may be a stupid question but since i've identified myself online and in this journal as a member of americorps*nccc does that mean i have to make my political entries protected?

i guess i will. so political commentary will come later, though it's not much because i didnt watch much because i just couldnt take it.

so today was by far the most exciting and interesting day of training yet. it was called a community research day. first we did a scavenger hunt but i can't divulge any of the answers or our experiences because we are competing between teams and only 1/3 of the teams have gone so far. more info will probably come at the end of the week.

so we did that which consisted of running around in downtown sacramento for a part of it. then we had lunch which was actually chicken subs from subway this time. a welcome change from the "turkey-based" products we've been having all the rest of the days.

then we had a short presentation about service learning and how we learn about our projects and research them, etc. then we discussed our plan for a team banner. and then we had 2 hours of community research. our team was assigned the task of researching the history of the air force base. so that's pretty cool. so we took a random drive around the base and looked at the old buildings and tried to figure out what they were for. apparently they still use the base for helicopter training. and somewhere on base is plutonium that they just discovered and they are containing and cleaning it up.

then there was dinner and then we had a community meeting which was just a meeting of the whole corps where we learned about the camp that we are going to next week. i'm excited about camping. but i am not excited about the bathrooms with no doors on the shower or toilet stalls. does it really cost that much to put curtains or something on them?

camping, sacramento, americorps, service learning
