yea i know this is so dorky

yea, overall i'm sorta disappointed by I Love the 90s. I Love the 80s was way better. and so was I Love the 80s Strikes Back even though it coulda been called "Eddie Murphy Movies and some other 80s stuff."

but i'm just going to offer my thoughts/memories on a few I Love the 90s things. my apologies if i get any of the years mixed up...:-P dont worry, it wont be nearly involved as the TV show because i dont even remember some of the things that they talk about. and other stuff i just dont care about. this all started just because i wanted to tell the slap bracelet story and talk about the scary goblin things from Ghost...lol

1990 -
Home Alone (they mention this on the website, but never talk about it...so i'll talk about it for them): I went and saw this movie with my aunt. So of course that means we were late. Whenever I go anywhere with my aunt or my grandmother we always get there late. So I remember getting there right at the part where the older brother was shining the candles through Macaulay Culkin’s ears. I wanted one of those talking recorder things, but my parents didn’t get me one. That movie was great, and so was the second one…but a third? They changed the kid’s name. And a fourth? It was back to Kevin McCallister again, yea, that makes sense.

slap bracelets: so you might have heard this story before. I had bunches of slap bracelets but my favorite was a green one with black polka dots. Well in third grade, Mrs. Johnson (she was cool) took it away because I had been playing with it too much in class. Fast forward seven years to when she is my brother’s 5th grade teacher. She called our house one night and I answered. All that I could remember from her class was that she had taken my slap bracelet. Well that and the fact that we had a pen pal soldier over in the Middle East during the Gulf War. When he came back to the U.S. he came and visited our class. I have a note with his autograph somewhere. Anyway, back to the slap bracelet. We chatted for a few and for some reason I decided to ask her if she still had my slap bracelet. I described it and she said that she had just cleaned out her desk the day before and was wondering what the hell that was.

Polly Pockets: something else that I wanted that my parents didn’t buy me. You’ll probably notice that a lot here. I wasn’t allowed to watch most of the movies that were mentioned in I Love the 90s, yet my parents bought me the Dangerous Minds soundtrack when I was in middle school…but more about that later

Michael Bolton: my mom is still obsessed with Michael Bolton. She has all of his CDs and a bunch of tapes. Whenever we go on a long trip in the car I’m forced to listen to Michael Bolton, but my mom trying to sing along is definitely worse. That and her dancing in the car. Yea. And it’s funny cuz my best friend’s mom loved Michael Bolton too. I really don’t get it.

Ghost: so i almost forgot to write about this one. this movie gave me nightmares. i was afraid that those little black goblin things were going to come and get me in the night.

1991 -
Terminator 2: All I have to mention about this is that Robert Patrick (T1000) came into FYE several times back when he was filming that movie Ladder 49 in Baltimore City. It also has John Travolta and Joaquim Phoenix in it, but we didn’t see them. Imagine that.

1992 -
Ross Perot: I just remember when they used to make fun of him on All That with the sketch with Big-Eared Boy.

Baby Got Back: VH1 has had so many countdowns that soon they are going to have a “countdown of countdowns.” This will definitely be on it. Along with the scene in Wayne’s World where they sing along to Bohemian Rhapsody in the car.

Ren and Stimpy: I wasn’t allowed to watch this show. But that’s really okay. But I did love Doug and the Rugrats.

1993 -
Where’s Waldo?: I definitely still have at least three Where’s Waldo? books under my dresser.

Crystal Pepsi: I remember that stuff. And it tasted just like Pepsi, but it was so the wrong color, so it wasn’t good. It’s like buttered popcorn jellybeans. Buttered popcorn is not supposed to be chewy.

Beavis and Butthead: I wasn’t allowed to watch this show either, but again I didn’t really want to. I also didn’t want to be sitting in between Beavis and Butthead in my 7th grade science class. Brian Command was on one side and Justin Ethem was on the other and they would talk across me in Beavis and Butthead voices during the whole entire class. I can’t remember who was who. But it was funny when I went to take my placement test at UMBC and Justin was in line right behind me (we went to different high schools). So of course I had to remind him about that.

Might Morphin Power Rangers: I admit that I watched this show when it first came out…and I had the Power Rangers Sega game…it was one of the only games I could actually beat.

1994 -
"Gangsta's Paradise”: so I went through this phase in middle school where I don’t even know what to call myself. Punks back there were known as “grits.” So I guess I was more like that…me and my black t-shirts and my jeans with the holes in the knees. But I had this one rap CD that I was obsessed with and that was the soundtrack to Dangerous Minds. And looking back I can’t believe my parents bought it for me. I would be singing along to all the songs about growing up in the hood including all the curse words. Then a few years later, I finally realized what most of the songs were talking about and I was like “what am I doing listening to this?”

Forrest Gump: the scenes on the bench was filmed in Savannah Georgia, in Chippewa Square. They added that bench temporarily just for the movie.

WHERE WAS MY SO-CALLED LIFE??

1995 -
Clueless: I loved Paul Rudd in this movie. And my grandmother drives like Cher. My grandmother went through a stop sign doing one of those rolling stop things and I said “Like, I totally paused!” Everyone in the car started cracking up except for my grandmother. But it’s not too surprising that she didn’t recognize the reference, she didn’t really know how to use a microwave at the time either.

1996 -
Twister: I was obsessed with that movie. And that is all I have to say.

Tickle Me Elmo: Tickle Me Elmo was like the Cabbage Patch Kid of the 90s. And I just realized that right now. When Tickle Me Elmo came out I thought it was crazy that people were getting into fights for a stuffed animal. But now I realize that the Cabbage Patch Kids did the same thing to people. But it’s still crazy.

Quad City DJ’s - Come On and Ride It (The Train): we danced to this song on youth group retreats. Yea.

Alanis Morissette: I never heard before that the song “You Oughta Know” was written about Dave Coulie, Anyone else have any thoughts? And Jagged Little Pill is still one of my all-time favorite albums

Scream: again, mentioned on the website but not on the show…that has happened several times. That’s false advertising. I was obsessed with this movie. And I have the second one as well. It featured Neve Campbell, who plays the exact same character in everything she’s been in since she started in Party of Five.

America’s Funniest Home Videos: this is one of the only times that my family was able to be in the same room without fighting each other. Whenever it was on, we all sat in the living room and watched it together. And America’s Funniest People as well even though that one wasn’t as good.

1997 -
Tamagotchi: so I didn’t have a Tamagotchi. I had a Nano baby. But my best friend had a Tamagotchi and I watched it for her while she was in gym glass. This was back before they banned them in school. Well I was taking care of it and it started going into convulsions. I thought that I had killed it. But when Kim met me after her gym class she was like, “oh, look, it grew!” and it had pooped in the corner of the screen and I couldn’t figure out how to clean it up.

Beanie Babies: yes I have a bunch. And I still collect them…but just the cool ones, and the bears. But I collected teddy bears before Beanie Babies came out.

1998 -
Natalie Imbruglia: I remember back when they were saying that she was going to be the next Madonna…where is she now?

Furbies: I didn’t have one but I was babysitting a kid who did and it was asleep under the bed. For some reason I had to go under the bed and I woke it up. The thing wouldn’t shut up! The little girl was all annoyed that I woke up the Furby.

1999 -

Y2K: I think that I just heard the funniest thing yet on this show. The one woman said, “I stocked up on gin and lipstick, because if it is going to be a disaster, I was going to be drunk and lookin’ good.” I just wanted the lights to flicker or something.

Blair Witch Project: someone just said that Blair Witch was all about acting…what? Now I will admit that at first I thought that the movie was real. But that was before I saw it. That was because the first time I ever heard of it, I was watching a special on the Sci-Fi Channel and they were acting like it was real (yes, I know I should have known better since it was on the Sci-Fi Channel, but still…). When I finally saw that movie I hated it. It was so boring, I think I dozed off a few times during the movie.

it’s funny watching whenever they do the little “News Brief” segments, seeing how the newscasters clothes and hair change over the years.
