Natalie joined the Daisies and they had their first meeting a few weeks back. Her troop is brand new and consequently, they have exactly ZERO dollars in their savings account. Yes, the cookie sales will yield them some cash, for sure, but that's not til January.
So, our local Girl Scout council is currently in the throes of a candy/magazine subscription fund raiser. We got the information for that fund raiser a week ago, and it ends this Friday. Last week, I took the bold step (that many other parents at this workplace do) and sent out a company wide email announcing the fund raiser. I explained that my DD (who everyone here knows) joined this troop, they are brand new, have no money, etc.
There is one guy in the engineering department here who is beyond benevolent. He has no children, but his dad was a teacher and his influence shows. E.g: when this guy trains us on product lines, he is like an uber approachable engineering professor. I know his dad (who sadly succumbed to liver cancer a few years ago) had a big influence on his life. Maybe it's because his dad knew the value of private contributions to education or educationally based groups, but this guy buys from Every Single Fund Raiser that is brought into this workplace. He was the first to sign up for like $25 worth of candy for N's fund raiser. And, after him, "she sold" about $200 more in candy. Plus, this morning, another engineer put a $147 check on my chair for magazine subscriptions he and his wife chose to order through my daughter's Daisies troop.
I am floored, on behalf of the Daisies.
Natalie's troop gets 30% of each sale. So, that will help their bank account get started. It makes me so happy to see this...they way it should be; private citizens CHOOSING to donate their dollars to a cause they deem worthy. Even if I am one of "those coworkers" I think I gave some people the opportunity to feel good about a brand new girl scout troop too.
And, FWIW, Natalie will hand deliver each package of candy to all her customers as well as help me collect any cash that I'm fronting until delivery. (They request people pay upon ordering but um, they don't have their product yet.) So, she will ultimately be involved in this fund raising endeavor that I passively am promoting on her behalf. :D
