Well,
how nice. Let's see...record deficit on our end, largely due to fatally-flawed occupation in Iraq funded by American taxpayers, whilst Iraqi gov't is saving their pennies for a rainy day? W T F?
I got an email forward from a friend of a friend in Iraq earlier this week; that 79 billion is not likely to get to the citizens or military worker bees either.
Back in the beginning of May, the temps were typically in the 80’s, but now days are all between 110-125 and it drops down to the 70’s at night. At least we’re typically about 10 degrees cooler then the guys down south around Bagdad. There is a lot of cropland around here, but it’s strange because their growing season is opposite of us in that the winter is the growing season and the summer is the time where nothing grows. When we arrived here in March things were still green, but now, most of the plantlife is dead. I guess this is normal for this time of year, but there has apparently been a drought this year as well and this has been causing a lot of problems with lack of water. Even the sheep herders are complaining because they aren’t getting the money they used to for their sheep due to them being so thin. This doesn’t stop the Iraqi Army (IA) commanders from having their own gardens and green manicured grass though. It’s amazing that they’ll let the soldiers go for weeks without water to bathe with, but not a day goes by without tankerfuls of water for the gardens of the base General and brigade commanders. The front of the Generals headquarter’s building has been called the new green zone by the Iraqi’s. It has basically turned into a status symbol around here. The more lush green your entryway to your building is, the more powerful you are. Even the commander of our academy is trying to install a lawn in front of his building. He’s gone so far as to put a bunch of dirt down, and gated it off real nice, but he knows if we catch him dumping water on it while 1000’s of basic trainees go without bathing that he’ll lose our support completely. So for now, all he has is a bunch of dirt in front of his building where there used to be stones.
