However, when we were young they warned us that if we didn't get an education we'd end up without a job and have to join the army. That didn't mean that smart people didn't join the army, too, but that the army was the employer of last resort. I think that is exactly what Kerry meant and he was interesting to see how he twisted it around to be a joke about Bush.

It's the same as saying, "Those who can, do; those who can't, teach." My second son is an excellent, dedicated English teacher. And I believe a good public education system is the solution to all our social problems. Well, I guess I'm still a knee-jerk liberal.

But, but, isn't that a little dated to say that? Today, I think it would be more appropriate to say, "get an education or work at McDonalds" especially during time when people are serving in a war. And Kerry served in a war. And his college transcripts (uncovered after the election) showed HE was a LAZY, perhaps STUPID student himself ( ... )

You know; you're probably right. That was almost 50 years ago. Kerry must have been a goof-off in school; I think he must be smarter than those grades indicate. I really don't think Kerry was joking. That's just his excuse.
