1875 Wedding Gown

Check out this piece of powerful prettiness on Antique Dress. It's a wedding dress from 1875, and it's in near mint condition. The bustle has those weird stacked pleats, which have always baffled me. I find the neckline enchanting, and the lace-up back is a fastening I've never seen before on a high-necked bodice like this. I even like the ( Read more... )

Beautiful. All of 'em. I wish I had my mom's wedding outfit (circa 1964) but it got ruined by water damage. Think a Jackie Kennedy outfit, in white lace.

I found another one. Shoulder cape, ca. 1884. It's just a circle! With lots of beading and lace. *drool*

My mom got married in a similar suit, without the lace, in 1984. She and Dad had a courthouse wedding. Very simple, very understated. I'm expecting my sister's dress to be an explosion of lace. :D

The lacing up the back of the jacket like that is a good idea.

If you gain weight before the wedding you just lace it a little looser instead of having to deal with refitting. ;)

Gorgeous dresses, the crochet one is kinda cool.

I know! I'm inclined to just go ahead and install lacing on the back of all my clothes, though that would be probably look weird in this day and age. :P

I'm pretty sure I've seen it on a few dresses, but that's it.

Weird is as weird does. No weirder than some people I see walking around some days.

So defiant, so bold, so unlike a woman . . . :D

Yeah, that's perfectly cool! I wouldn't have a journal on the internets if I didn't want perfect strangers to read it. I even friended you back.

I love the 60s dress. If I had a place to wear it, I'd love to have it.
