Finals Week = Hell week. I've been hard at work studying (among other things) so I'm a bit behind, but at least I'm getting them written! That counts for something, right? Anyway, here they are. The one for Dec 16 and 17 should be up tomorrow.
December 14 - Appreciate
What’s the one thing you have come to appreciate most in the past year? How do you express gratitude for it? (Author: Victoria Klein)
I think the thing that I have come to appreciate the most is opportunity. I used to have a habit of taking the opportunities handed to me for granted. From something as simple as a favor from a contact, to something as huge as my trip to Tanzania - you have to look at every opportunity with fresh eyes, gratitude and interest.
In order to express gratitude, I try to be just that, gracious. I try not take things for granted, and to take the time to pursue the best of my opportunities rather then letting them pass by because I'm tired or lazy or would rather watch The Fashion Show in my undies. (Which, coincidentally, is what I'm doing now.) Well, at least that's what I was doing when I STARTED this entry.
December 15 - 5 Minutes
Imagine you will completely lose your memory of 2010 in five minutes. Set an alarm for five minutes and capture the things you most want to remember about 2010. (Author: Patti Digh)
This would be so much easier if I was writing this on paper!
This exercise was actually a lot more difficult than I expected. Now that the five minutes are up, there are a couple things I could have included. (My Government and Politics of the Middle East class! I wouldn't want to forget that!) I actually spent more time trying to remember what actually *happened* in 2010 that wasn't in the past six months. (The whole school year thing throws me off. It's like September is the start of the new year.) I also spent a lot of time thinking of things that I eventually ruled out. Funnily enough, my blog never crossed my mind, but I think that's partly because I forgot I started it in 2010. The only no-brainers were the first three, the others I could take or leave, but taking would be great.
So here's what I have:
-Tanzania - No explanation necessary.
-Cutting hair - While less of a big deal than I anticipated it would be, I still would not want to wake up with my hair chopped off in a mess of confusion
-Desi dying - Only because I wouldn't want to relive the moment where I found out if I had to be told twice.
-New and old friendships - This is vague, but I've had falling outs with a few people but I've
become closer to others. I'd especially want to remember the people I've gotten close to.
-Friendship with siblings - I've been friendlier to my siblings more in the past year than I've been for a while, which is amazing.
-Light up Night - It was awesome.
-VIH - I've learned a lot from the Vira Heinz Program, and I'm continuing to learn. I wouldn't want to forget these things!
-Blue and Gold - I have had a lot of great memories with Blue and Gold (painting the panther being the most notable!)
-Finals Week (both this and last semester) - I've learned so much from these weeks, which were some of the most trying I've ever had.
-Bhangra in the Burgh - Again, awesome. Trans-Siberian Orchestra can go here, as can Ahmad Jamal and Esperanza Spalding, though I thought of all of these after the deadline.
