Hmm... let's see... (hope you don't mind if I answer here!):

Hindi films: I LOVE those films from India that are referred to as "Bollywood"! They have fun musical interludes and dramatic love stories. Good stuff.

Harlem Renaissance: We did a lot of programming at my library on this subject recently, and it really piqued my interest in the subject. I am especially interested in the literature of the period, and writers like Zora Neale Hurston and Langston Hughes.

old movies: I was a Cinema Studies major in college, so I got a lot of exposure to the older films. I love 'em. I am crazy about James Stewart, Myrna Loy, Katharine Hepburn... so many people!

Icons:

Toys Rock: House with his yo-yo! One of the first six icons I ever made. I like the font - reminds me of a "Rolling Stone" cover.

Amy: Do you know the folk/rock band Indigo Girls? Well, I am a huge fan of theirs, and that icon is of Amy Ray's hand strumming her guitar.

SV Tasty: That's the gorgeous Michael Rosenbaum (Lex from Smallville) sipping a drink. I just think he looks so adorably dorky there. :D

And "YAY" for co-challenge posting duties!! We must chat...

I've always loved old movies. I was pretty much obsessed as a kid, and read a lot about the the old stars. Katharine Hepburn, James Stewart, Humphrey Bogart, Cary Grant, and Astaire and Rogers are some of my favorites. I think my favorite movies are the old screwball comedies.

I've heard of the Indigo Girls, but I don't know any of their music. I will make an effort to listen to some!

Yay for co-challenge posting duties! I'd love to chat; I have a user name on Windows Messenger, googletalk, and AIM, or if you prefer we can email. I have a few ideas for challenges already, so I'm looking forward to this! :D

You know what? I've never seen an Astaire/Rogers movie (I've seen them separately, but not in any of their famous pairing films)! *hangs head in utter shame* This must be rectified immediately!! Any suggestions for a first choice? I love screwball comedies, too. My favorite is probably Arsenic and Old Lace. Too funny.

Yes, you must listen to some Indigo Girls! It'll change your life! I recommend anything from "Rites of Passage" to start with. They're all amazing, though. :D

I'm bethctg for googletalk, so we can always do it that way, but email is fine too. I work from noon til 8 tomorrow, so I won't be around during that stretch. Anyway, I am so looking forward to entering your challenges! :)

I think my favorite Astaire/Rogers flick is "The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle." It's actually a biopic about a famous husband-and-wife dance team from the early 1900s. It was their tenth movie together, and it's really wonderfully touching and Ginger is lovely. Not too much original dances because they were recreating the Castle dance moves, but as an overall movie telling a story, that's the one I'd suggest. As for just sheer, all-out, Astaire/Rogers escapist glitz, "Top Hat" fills the bill. :)

Hah! Arsenic and Old Lace is wonderful! Cary Grant is really hysterical in that one, and all of the supporting characters are so spot on to their roles. Josephine Hull is adorable! :)

Have you ever seen "Penny Serenade"? It's with Irene Dunne and Cary Grant. ZOMG so sweet and sad... a real tearjerker! It's one of my favorite old movies.

OK! I will make a point to get some Indigo Girls, and start with Rites of Passage. Thanks for the rec!

I've sent you an invite via googletalk; I'm assuming your email for that is bethctg@gmail.com. I'll be around tonight after 8, so maybe we can touch base. If not tonight, then definitely over the next day or so. Looking forward to it!
