Note: When I wrote my first little T/C drabble, I had no thoughts of a 30-part series. Now here I am, exactly 29 days and 20,000 words later, hardly able to believe that I've reached the end. I want to thank everyone who's read the series, encouraged me with wonderful supportive comments, and provided excellent plot suggestions. You guys are teh bestest, and I send much love and hugging your way! :D
Epilogue
Everyone at headquarters was shocked when they heard the news. In the month since the embassy dinner, interrogations were completed, debriefings fully processed, investigations closed, and arrests made. It was good to have it all done, but the result was a blow to the Service.
There were always persistent rumours of a mole within British Intelligence. Such information was never discounted; the rumours were usually groundless but it would never do to risk ignoring the possibility. The last mole, Costain, had been active for some time and severely damaged their network in East Germany.
This time, the mole had been able to function only briefly. Once the enemy agents had revealed their information under Agent Siviter's expert interrogation, capturing the traitor had been simply a matter of time.
Control called The Minister as soon as the arrest was made.
"Yes, Minister, we are completely stunned… No, we never suspected Philip at all. He'd done sterling work as head of F Division… Apparently he'd only been recently recruited… His contact used the code name 'Jack'… Yes, Minister, I agree we need to replace him immediately… Do I have anyone I'd recommend? Sir, I know just the man. You remember Tony Murchison?"
