Distraction
The night dragged. Tony managed to keep enough attention on the undercover operation but knew that if he had sole responsibility for the mission, it would not be successful. He was quite glad that Philip and a number of his F Division staff were in place as primary operatives for this assignment.

Tony's thoughts kept returning unbidden to Control and the woman he'd escorted to the dinner. Tony knew he'd never met her, but he couldn't help thinking she looked vaguely familiar. He racked his brain trying to place her but couldn't manage to do so.

Every so often when he looked over at the two of them, Control's eyes would lock with his. Each time, Tony felt heat rise in his face; he could only imagine how red his cheeks must be. He hoped Control didn't notice. He thought that Control looked somewhat distracted; no doubt it was difficult for him to be on an assignment while trying to woo his new love.

The hardest part was when he had to serve Control and The Woman. They had been seated at the table Tony had been assigned, and every time Tony had to refill a wine glass or clear a dish, he felt terribly awkward. There was a very impolite part of him that wanted to see a bowl of soup spilled over The Woman's head. No, that wasn't quite true: He didn't want just to see the soup spilled on her, he wanted to be the one doing the spilling.

And there was another part of him, an incredibly reckless part deep in his brain, that wanted to roughly grab Control by the lapels of his beautifully tailored tuxedo jacket and pull him close for a deep, soul-searing kiss.

Instead, Tony moved to refill the next empty wineglass.
