i'm making calls again for barack in battleground states making sure that people will be getting out to vote and encouraging them to vote for change. there's a lot of answering machines but there are also a lot of very interesting people. the old people have really become my favorite as they tend to be either funny or rude - both of which can be amusing.
best phone call so far today was with a lovely 76 year old man named robert.
robert: hello!
me: hi. may i speak with robert?
robert: hmm. who's calling?
me: i'm lisa howe and i am a volunteer with barack obama's campaign for change.
robert: oh, so i suppose you are calling in hopes that i will vote for him! (he said this while laughing and i couldn't tell if he was teasing me or not.)
me: well, sir, i'm primarily calling to see if you are planning to vote.
robert: well, i will be voting!
me: wonderful, sir. have you decided who you will be supporting for president?
robert: YEP! sure have.
me: wonderful... do you mind sharing that with me, sir? (i can sort of hear him smiling in his voice but i'm still not totally sure and am now a bit nervous that i may be pushing the old man too far)
robert: well, young lady, who are you going to vote for?
me: well, sir, i am going to be voting for barack obama.
robert: alrighty!! if you do, i will too!! (now he is totally laughing clearly enjoying himself.)
me: excellent. thanks so much, sir.
robert: so long!
