Saturday Evening at Home: # 5 Nicodemus Terrace

Lana'd had a lovely day out and about. She'd gone back to the coffee shop, On Holy Ground, and then wandered around the city some more, getting to know it better.

But now she was home and curled into a comfy chair with a cup of tea. Some cool jazz was playing in background and fit perfectly with the murder mystery she was reading.

Lex arrives to visit

Lex had given Mercy the day off, and as such he was out driving himself. He left the coffee house and drove around to think. His conversation with Lee had left him.....struggling.

He consulted the PDA one more time, matching the address for the house he was looking for. He parked and walked to the door, ringing the bell and hoping she was home.

Lana heard the bell ring and looked up from her book, a little perplexed. Who would be stopping by the house? She was pretty sure Phoebe was busy tonight and she couldn't imagine who else would know where she was.

She saw Lex through the peephole and found herself automatically checking to make sure she was decently dressed before opening the door. "Lex? Hi... I, um... wasn't expecting you."

"Hi," He said with a smile. "I'm sorry I didn't call first, I was actually out in the neighborhood..driving around, and thought I'd stop by. We haven't had a chance to talk. To catch up. Can I come in?"

"Oh, sure. Of course." She stepped back to let him into the house, then closed the door behind him.

She turned back to him still a little confused, but smiling, "Um... did you want to come sit in the living room? And can I get you a drink or something?"

Lex nodded. "The living room is fine. And no need to bring me anything. I'm fine at the moment. Sit, sit." He gestured her to the couch.

"O-kay..." Lana moved over to the couch and sat down gracefully, tucking one leg up under her. "So, what brings you down to this neck of the woods?"

"I was at Holy Grounds earlier, a coffee house not far from here," He explained. "And after leaving there, I wanted.....I needed to see a friendly face. Not many of those here for me."

"Really? How funny. I was there earlier as well."

She looked up at him with some concern. "Please, come sit." She gestured to a spot on the couch. "A friendly face, huh? Well, I'm glad to help then. Do you need a listening ear as well? You know I've always been willing to listen."

She stopped herself and bit her lip. This wasn't her Lex. But God, he just *seemed* so like him. "I mean, well... you know what I mean." If he was anything like the other, he would.

"I know you have been La...." He stopped. Lana always was willing to listen. His Lana. Back in his Smallville. On his Earth.

But what of this Lana? Lex felt like his head might pop, and he nearly collapsed onto the couch.

"Yes," He said weakly. "I very much do know what you mean."

Lana reached out and touched his arm gently, concerned over the look on his face. "Lex... are you all right? Are you sure I can't get you something?"

He felt the touch, and let it ground him. He reached over and took her hand in his.

"Just, sit here with me." He said quietly. "And we can pretend that we come from the same Earth. And that everything I learned lately, is false. That's all good."

"Maybe pretend we are back in Smallville?" He smiled.

"Of course," she said, squeezing his hand gently. "We'll just be Lex and Lana, two dear friends, the way we always were."

"Though," she said with a rueful smile, glancing around her, "This isn't much like the mansion back home."

"No, it really isn't." He looked around. "But it's very nice. It suits you."

He smiled at her and reached up to to touch her cheek. "So, tell me about what you've been up to."

She leaned into his touch for a moment, forgetting that this wasn't exactly the same man she'd known since forever.

"Settling in. Getting to know the town a little before I start work. Oh! And I almost forgot! I got a job working for you - well, for LeXcorp as an office admin. I haven't met with the woman yet to finalize the details, but I'm all excited about it."

She looked at him curiously. "I got a job at LeXcorp. I looked at all the stuff out there, thought LeXcorp had the best opportunities and options and I applied. And got the job," she added with a grin.
