I probably know one of their songs, just don't know I know it. You know? ;-)
Urbex is short for Urban Explorer. Probably should have included that, hunh? Which pretty much amounts to people either stumbling across things people have completely forgotten existed or trespassing to places that people still remember are there, but don't care enough about to take care of... with cameras.
Try sticking the term into Google and hit the image tab at the top. There is so much abandoned and unkept property on this planet of ours. Somewhat like our cemetery excursion! remember that?

I did that, and wow, there are some beautiful photos.
Your explanation makes a lot of sense, especially when I think of you taking your photos when we were out and about. Of course I remember exploring the cemetery with you. That was a good time and good memories of seeing the place through your eyes.
i also am not fond of leibowitz, i prefer natural lighting and real-as-possible type image stuff. i also had not heard of urbex but recognise the google images. i am quite uneducated about photography but i feel people photography is the easiest for me to react to! i wanna be one of those cool people who wear their cameras like necklaces lol

I've never heard of the term urbex, but you describe it beautifully.
