OMG you know how people talk about their first sexual awakening? i always thought mine had passed me by lol and i just never noticed but then one day i just remembered out of the blue how as a kid i watched first knight and finding sommersby (i always remember it as 'finding sommersby' but the internet tells me otherwise) over and over again lol and it's got to have something to do with richard gere and his hair and those baggy shirts. i will have to rewatch them to see if they hold up!
i haven't read any of the books you mentioned sadly. i attempted mockingbird but it was so upsetting i put it down. i will give it another go.
Had to look up First Knigh! Don't think I've seen that one, but the pic on IMDB... yeah, I can see the hair/shirt thing working for you! He was much less 'pretty' in this than he usually is. Was? lol. Either way, I prefer the might have a clue what the hammer is for, look. Oooh, was their sword fighting in First Knight? That's sexy stuff, sword fighting.
If you're into sic-fi/fantasy at all, the L'Engle books are delightful. Girl driven [quite unique in the genre at the time] with settings that were almost tangible, a family with issues both normal and surreal. Tollbooth is just a general delight.
Mockingbird is rough, for sure. Come to think of it, I think I've only ever read it in warmer months. Maybe try it in spring when you can sit out in the sun and read? The movie is a little easier, but that may be because I'd already read it by the time I saw it? No matter, I hope you give it another shot.
If you get through any of the books, I'd love to know what you think!
yes first knight was very swashbuckly! you should give it a go! no substance lol and very cheesy but julia ormond is brilliant. my fave gere film is still breathless! i love trashy remakes of french films lol godard who?
One my greatest delights in life was meeting the author when Scrumpkin was young. She was as unapologetically herself as her heroines tend to be and honestly pleased to meet her fans. Especially the many women who had grown up under her influence.
How did I miss this?? I can't believe you met Madeleine L'Engle, that is so cool. I also adore that series, unsurprisingly. But would you believe I never read Phantom Tollbooth? I remember coming across it in middle school, but even now, never read it. I should at some point.
I remember watching Sommersby! That was a fascinating movie, and one I should rewatch as an adult.
