This past weekend turned into a decent soccer weekend for me. Unlike the one before it that showcased United's loss to Chelsea in the Community Shield and the Sounders mental lapse v. Real Salt Lake.
The opening of the Prem saw United win with a Rooney goal. Oh, how I am longing to see more Rooney goals this year. I am not a Berbatov fan, and I like the contrast of Owen making runs to Berbatov's standing around. Let's see if there can be an exciting pairing up top for United.
Liverpool starts off this season with a loss to Tottenham. I didn't need another reason to root against Liverpool, but I've read that Jamie Bamber is a Hotspur supporter. A good enough reason for me to pull for the Spurs this season.
I've been waiting for Arsenal to take the league. Ever since they got their team makeover of young talent, it seems inevitable that Arsenal win the league title. But that hasn't happened so far. Even though I'm not an Arsenal fan, I've been expecting everyone to receive a through trouncing from Arsenal. Will this be the year? With a 6-1 win over the weekend I think they are off to a confident start.
As for
jgstewart and his Blackburn Rovers, here's hoping that things improve after the first loss.
What about Man City this year? They brought in so much talent that there is no way to count them out of a decent showing. At a minimum they will be a spoiler for the usual top four. Interesting times ahead.
Even the Sounders turned in a good show in LA. Frankly, I don't care about the Becks red card or the H1 N1 status of Landon Donovan. I just wanted a win. And a win on the road. Got 'em both. Keep it up guys.
