So today, technically yesterday, was the last official day of summer. It's June, ladies and gentlemen, and you know what that means: enrollment (except for trisem people who've been going to school for a week now, forgive my bellyaching! Hee.), back to school sales everywhere from National Bookstore to your local malls, scattered rain showers, and the disappearance of the hordes of teenagers walking in flocks, and very slowly may I add, everywhere.
When I was in grade school, I used to love this time. This last week of summer was always so filled with anticipation. I'd rush with my family to National, clutching my list of to-buy school supplies, and I'd always make sure I'd have the nicest notebooks and pencil cases and all those things. (digress: this was the earliest sign of my shopaholism. Hey I just invented a word there!) Then after we go home, I lug my 2-3 bags filled with stuff and I'd take out my huge pile of books and I'd plastic wrap my books right away and I'd put all my pencils and pens in my pencil cases and I'd put them all in my new bag and I'd set it aside in just the right place so I can just pick it up on the way out as I hear my school bus beeping for me.
And my shoes! Oh, our leather shoes. I don't know how it was in other schools, but when we were kids in ICA the leather shoes were always a big thing since we were only allowed minimal accessories. We'd always make sure that we had cute new leather shoes, secretly judging who had the nicest ones. I think I was one of the first ones to buy platform school shoes, but that wasn't for style it was just cos I was tired of always being at the front of the line during flag ceremony.
Around high school time of course, all these fads faded away. Oh I still very much enjoyed covering my books in plastic wrapper (but that's just cos I'm OC) but I found myself using the same bag all four years of high school, only buying new school shoes when my new ones looked funny already, and skipping practically every on my school to-buy list cuz I already knew that they'd go unused (who needs art paper during 4th year high school?!)
Now I find myself facing the last week of my summer before junior year college and it's so different, y'know? I don't even have books to cover anymore. :)) And I was just thinking that this is probably going to be my last normal summer vacation ever. Next year is OJT and the year after that will be decision-making time whether I go into further studies or go get me a job. It's sucky sometimes that we all have to grow up. Oh well. I am really excited, though, to move in next Sunday. I guess even though I can't go back to the way it was, at least it looks like my new adventure's gonna be one crazy trip.
And to Mike Nav who always complains that my entries are long and he needs to scroll down so much, sorry na ah!!! Hahahaha.
