Conversation with a small child

May 07, 2014 17:50

Mirrored from Marsha Sisolak.

Child, in a low, whispered tone: Mrs. Sisolak, did you know that a long, long time ago-like five weeks ago?-people didn’t look like people? *dramatic voice ensues* They looked like monkeys!

Me: Really? Who told you that?

Child: My mom. And we’re kind of related to them!

Me: Isn’t that amazing? It’s called evolution.

Child: Evolution. And Charles Darwin says-

Me, O.O: Wait. How do you know about Charles Darwin?

Child: My sister told me. (Note: Sister is a second-grader.)

Me: Wow. That is awesome.

Child: Bye! *runs to mom, who has suddenly appeared*

That almost-almost!-makes up for the insanity of Open House, zoo trip, Mother’s Day crafts, and trimester assessments all jumbled together this past week.
